Just got lasik

Had lasik done about 2:30 this afternoon. So far I can see almost as good as I could with contacts in. Still just a tad bit cloudy. Weirdest part of the procedure was when they put the little eye cutter on the eye and applied the suction. When they applied the suction you lose vision out of the eye. But they only kept the suction on while cutting the flap. Once they took the suction off you get the vision back. Of course when the laser was going it kinda smelled like when you are in the dentists and they drill on you teeth. After the procedure vision was pretty blurry and I couldn't keep from blinking on the way home. Got home took alittle nap and the blurriness subsided and the blinking has stopped. I was a -3.0 and -3.75 prior to this. The place I got it done was lasikplus, for around $2500. I gotta go back tommorrow morning for a checkup to make sure all is well. If anyone is thinking about it, I'd say go for it.

What is it like when your vision goes during the suction? Does it just turn black like you are blinking ?

Just totally goes out, its a wierd feeling. Kinda like if you got punched in the eye.

Creepy... I want lasik but dont know if I could do it. My eyes turn into waterfalls at the optomitrist's office, I cant image what kind of water would be pouring out during the procedure.

A good way of knowing how this feels is to get really light headed or pass out but still be conscious. Whenever I pass out (sometimes after donating blood or badly injuring myself where i'm bleeding pretty bad), my vision goes first, then my hearing goes, and if I don't lay down fast enough to get [oxygenated] blood into my head, I will go unconscious. But usually, I lay down fast enough to prevent me from completely passing out. Its creepy thouhg, my vision will go out, but I can still blink. and see nothing.

Wet eyes are better than dry eyes. My wife was going to have it done a few years ago but she had dry eyes and couldn't get it.

a couple of my friends had this done...they swear by it..its the greatest thing. One of my friends had it done last week, it took 15 minutes and $2500 later. She said it was well worth it and her vision has improved dramatically.

I had lasik done about 6 yrs ago and to this day, that moment when the suction was applied to my eye is the scariest moment i've ever fast.

i was scared witless. tears were running down my eyes.

My newspaper always has ads for "OMG $499 LASIK!!!" That's per eye, though. Was your more compicated or something? I suppose the newspaper ad is all hype anyways.

This place had 699 Lasik, that was with no enhancements and better than -3.0 vision using the VISX laser. If you got the 1 year enhancements with the VISX it was like another 600. I went with the next model up(some type of B&L laser) that came with 1 year of enhancements. I could have paid an extra 200 per eye and gotten lifetime enhancements.

btw, for anyone in the LA area. my brother does Lasik. one of the top Lasik Surgeons in the Southern Cal area. he has personally performed over 27,000 surgeries over the last 6 yrs.

here is his website, not updated in over 2 years. http://www.click2lasik.com

Edit

btw, he will do both eyes for $1500.00 not the lowest price, but he is very very good.

Bargain eye surgery just seems so very very wrong.

Wait, you got it in both eyes at the same time? Did they tell you not to rub your eyes? Do the eyes feel any different?

One eye right after the other. Yeah, you're not supposed to rub your eyes for awhile after, couple weeks. My eyes right now don't feel any different than before.

No sh!t, right? That's the only reason I haven't done it yet, who the fck goes under the laser based on a pop-up ad? 😕 But based on the explanation of what to expect when it does go well, I think I will go ahead and schedule. The good thing is, being in Boston which is world-reknowned for its healthcare facilities, I can go to Massachusetts General Hospital's Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary to make sure there's no hackery. Even though I'm sure there'll be a premium to pay going there, you just don't take chances with a sense like sight.

Do you sleep in goggles to make sure you don't accidentally rub them in your sleep?
