if you ask most times they will reduce the fee for you. they installed my line for $39.99

I'm still waiting for FiOS service to become available in my area. Verizon installed fiber to all the units in my building some months back, so hopefully soon.

Hah.. and Verizon called me this morning saying they're cancelling my Fios install scheduled for tomorrow. Apparently my side of the street can't get it yet since the cable run isn't complete. The other side of the street though... they've had it for nearly a year now

Does TW offer any month to month plans for tv/internet? DirecTV is 2 yr contract only and obviously i'm not gonna sign up to a long contract if fios comes available in another 6 months or so...

Well guys be aware. The faster cableCO speeds are likely showing up in.... fios markets. But I hear docsis 3 is working for them just fine. Should be widespread soon.

Anywho I live in AT&T uverse area. And TWC does not offer anything faster yet.

Interestingly, mine has actually gotten slower in the past year yet they upped their plan (was 5mbps when I got it) to something like 14mbps. So I'm not even getting a third of what I'm paying for. At the college I get 20mpbs over LAN, which apparently is also slow! Downloads game demos pretty fast from FTP. Doesn't seem to like Steam though.

Yeah seems Canada is behind. Last I heard the main pipe that goes to US is only like a OC45.... I could be wrong though. I know my ISP actually upgraded from 1mb to 5mb years ago but they never upgraded the main pipe accordingly. They should have made it 5x as fast, technically. In fact they offer a 14mb service or something yet they cap to 5 at the last DSLAM/router, so people are paying for something they'll never get outside our network.

I have Fairpoint DSL and it sucks. 1.6Mbps down, 300-400kbps up, 40+ms ping. I'm going to give Comcast a shot and hope I can get at least 5-6Mbps.

Cable connection here in Vancouver. But it varies all over the place. During the daytime I probably average 5-10 mbps. This test was done at midnight and I rarely see it that good. But overall I'm happy with the connection!

Technically the account I'm on has a 100Gig/month cap which I've gone over a couple of times without ever getting any warning.

my download is pretty good. upload is lacking though. But I'm pretty happy right now. Just a few months ago, I used to get 5-6 Mbps down and .7-1 up. Then verizon started laying FIOS cables in my town. I love competition

And I dont believe its because of FIOS competition. Its because Comcast is upgrading to DOCSIS 3.0 and offering faster speeds, yes it is some what to do with competition with FIOS but not directly imo.
