A bright cell phone stands out in a dark movie theatre.

I don't mind if you look to see the msg, but close it right after that...don't start passing it around to friends or writing a long msg and keep on doing it back and forth.

It does, but if you try to be discreet and put it in your lap and then read a message/text you should be FINE. IT takes only 1 finger to text.

Now people compare this to people KICKING SEATS? Kicking seats is something you cannot IGNORE. A cell phone that is discreetly placed so that someone is reading a message is NOT AN ISSUE unless you are staring at the guy to begin with. Watch your damn movie. If you're watching the movie, yes you can feel someone kicking your chair, but if not some guy who's trying to text (so long as his phone is not being waved around)

Right....a policy like that would come from pretty high up in their operations department.

If someone called me and complained about it I'd respectfully tell them that it is theatre policy, end of story. It is highly unlikely you could get anyone to rue anything.

It'll only create a disruption for that first person. Then, the other 200 idiots who would have sat there text messaging will think, "oh screw that, I'm not getting thrown out after I paid $20 for my ticket, popcorn, and drink."

IMO, cel phones being used in any way, shape, or form in a movie theater is asinine.

Unless it was an emergency or something

kids running in front of you ten times throughout the movie to get popcorn and crap is asinine, bumping my chair like a jack russell terrier is asinine, i text quietly so no one can see (welcome to 2007) i mean wtf. you wan the luxury of privacy and quiet movie time, put a home theater in your house...

there is no perfect world. i hate when people TALK during movies, though.

movie staff/cop went overboard. But as far as teting, I give YOU the MIDDLE FINGER. You are the kind of person that pisses me off in theaters. Yes, even texting would piss me off. What part of "turn off your cell phones please" do you not understand? I hate you.

Ill probably buy the security guy a beer after the show.

So you can argue all you want in here but if you text with me around in a theatre, you get told to stop it, if you don?t, you get evicted from the theatre. I win, the crowd win, YOU LOOSE.

LOOSERS!!!!!

Lets analyze this win, shall we?

You ask the texter to put it away.
He refuses.
You leave your seat, go to get security, find security, bring them to the auditorium, and ask them to ask him to put it away.
He refuses again.
Security then escorts him out.
You go back to your seat smiling, having missed 15 minutes of the movie. Others around you following this saga also miss parts of the movie.

Great win! You are a real hero! You got the evil texter booted from the theater and all you did was miss the part where the guy planted the evidence, thus leaving you questioning the ending 45 minutes later. Woohoo!

I was about to suggest this myself. I have witness first hand someone get decked in the jaw for texting in the theatre. For those who say, but but but the light is so dim.. have more dim things to worry about that a text message. Believe it or not, some of us posting here actually grew up in a time where there were no cell phones to bring into a theatre with us. All we had to deal with is the people talking to the screen.

So you've got your phone back, and you weren't supposed to be using it in the theater according to rules anyway. They probably could have just confiscated it if they really wanted to. Happy?

No they couldnt have just confiscated it. The worst they could have done is ask him to leave the theater. The rules DO NOT state that you cannot use your cell phone, they simply ask you to silence it.

QFFT.

Too bad he didn't smash it with the cop right there and the cop said he didn't see anything. People who use their cells in theaters are selfish bungholes.

You really have a problem with people having a cell phone in a movie theater when its on vibrate?

If I'm sitting next to you yes, b/c I can hear it and I'm going to have to deal with you pull it out, see the screen light up and you fiddle around or even answer it which happens more often than not.

Do you take your cell phone/bb everywhere 24/7?

Well...that is too bad for you my friend...get over yourself...its called being out in public

Yes, I do I have 2 cells with me most of the time...thats just the way it is for some people...learn to deal with it.

Get over yourself. You sound like a classic a-hole. Learn some manners and common courtesy when you're in public.

Asshats, like yourself are good though b/c it just makes folks like myself complain and write to movie theater corporations who will hopefully make their cell phone policies more stringent.

haha wow, you're the asshat here. he needs to get over himself? some of us have jobs that require the need of contact 24/7, its public...not your home where you make the rules. the rule's in the theater i was at, as well as theaters in my home town say "silence" your phones, i do. even i myself cant hear it vibrate squished between my legs. you seriously just stay home, rather than be nosy/asshat enough to write letters and complain to ruin others time. some people just always manage to find a way to be unhappy...:(

Huh? Why did you get booted from the movie theater? For breaking the theater rules maybe? If you weren't distracting anyone, why did you get booted? Oh wait, you were too involved in your little world to notice you were distracting others. The only asshat was you and you got what you deserved. Sounds like you need to stay home.

You did not have to give them your phone. You had a choice. Hand over the phone and resume your movie OR leave because you could not be trusted to not bother other movie goers with your cell phone.
It's prety simple. If you don't like it, complain to the theatre management, not us.

Get over it.

question: what is the point of getting so angry/defensive over something like a cell phone?

if you seriously think someone texting in front of you disturbs your movie experience, i suggest you remove the stick from your ass.

Well since OP is obviously gay he might like it :)

And how, pretell, have you deduced that the OP is "obviously gay?" What clues did I miss? Im curious to know what investigative skills you possess that made this so obvious?

Free form labeling! Being gay is officially not bad, it is like i sad, OP is male

the OP texted someone back, didn't disturb anyone's experience, and then was called out of the theater to turn in his cell phone. so in the process of being removed from the movie, he probably walked in front of a few people, etc. and ended up disturbing more people than a simple text.

and the OP might respond: uh, i'm pissed because some jackass removed me from the theater for no good reason?

i know, it would be easier if we all had no friends and had no need to communicate with them. unfortunately, some of us do.
