I wanted to get my permit for a while now and I'm nervous about the BO administration making things more difficult than they already are so I finally got my act together.
Met with a court liason officer and They ran through all paper work, checked up on any priors, captured my finger prints(electronically). Followed by Brief interview with the Lieutenant.
Now they have to send everything off to the FBI for a background check.
They said this takes 11 weeks right now. Is this normal? What are they checking?
Also is it safe to assume my prints are now part of an nationwide electronic print database?
Is this a normal process compared to other states?
Complete Process
1) Take NRA basic course with rang time. Bring Certificate to interview
2) completed & notarized application
3) passport/birth certificate
4) proof of residency
5) Records release form
6) Local town questionnaire
7) Disclosure of any arrests or car accidents and the disposition
8) Finger prints
9) 35.00 to town
10) $19.25 to Department of Public Saftey
11) Interview with Ranking officer. Review paper work.
12) 11 weeks for FBI check
13) Chief of Police issues 60 day temporary permit
14) $35.00 to stat police barracks
15) issue 5 year CC permit
UPDATE 1: 6-17-2009
So here we are almost a full 3 months later and I finally got a call yesterday at my desk from the investigating officer in my Town. She was completing my background check and had to verify a few things with me. She also asked me to clarify my work supervisor's phone number, I guess they really do validate your employment. She said she was waiting for one more thing but everything should be in front of the Police chief for sign off within a couple days.
About time...super excited to finally have it.
Update 2: 6/19/2009
Well I got approved. Passed all the checks and I will picking up the temporary permit this afternoon. Probably go get the permanent one from state police barracks on monday.
