Good for you, glad to hear it went well...I'd like to try some classes in the future, to increase flexibility, but no money for classes right now :(

i took a pilates class a couple of years ago, no machines, only mat work and boy was it difficult. the movements are very low impact but are extremely difficult to do(if you're not in shape :) ).

does it work like a gym where u pay a monthly fee or is it by the class? how many classes per week do they recommend and how long before it starts to show progress?

I'm taking an "intro package" thingy that's 3 one-on-one sessions with a trainer and three mat classes. I'm going to look into the cost of weekly classes at the beginning of the year when my wife is pulling in a paycheck again (she's on maternity leave right now).

Most instructors will say 6-10 classes before you start to really show progress AFAIK. I'm definitely feeling it in my lower abs and hip flexors today.

Mine has been really into yoga for quite a while, but wants to try something with more resistance training incorporated into it so she'll probably start going with me in Jan. :)

my mom is a pilates instructor, started and owns her own business, and makes pretty decent bank, although she does work 50+ hours a week.

Are you becoming Jewish, by any chance? ;)

Pilates has somewhat less emphasis on flexibility and more emphasis on resistance training. You actually do stuff using machines for resistance rather than your own body weight.
