Just got back from a 7 mile walk . . . difficulty (290 lbs). . .

I did a ten mile walk today, except instead of walking I was sitting on my throne, being carried on the backs of the innocent.
 
I miss my walks...

Used to throw on the iPod and walk and hour or two a night around my mom's retirement community.

My apartment complex isn't as nice to walk around though so it is not as enjoyable and I stopped doing it. I want the next place I live to be good for both walking and bike riding. Am getting older, need my exercise 🙂
 
My last good walk was in November 2008. I think it was about 5 miles total. The funny thing was I wasnt planning on such a long trip and wasnt dressed properly. As a result of wearing the wrong shoes, my feet were killing me when I finally made it back to the car.

Never again.

That seems kind of crazy even for someone fit. The most important thing is consistency. Keep up the good work.

I usually jog 2-3 miles once or twice a week, add in a couple weightlifting sessions, and pick up basketball once in a while. I also try to eat somewhat healthy. Fast food maybe 10x in a year. I stay in great shape but also have been doing this for years.

The only thing crazy about it is the amount of time involved for the # of calories burned/cardiovascular benefit vs. what little is accomplished (vs the following). Come mow my lawn with a push mower; wild guess - at least 5 or 6 miles of walking. So, that distance isn't really that out of line with a possible normal amount of exercise. (Thankfully I got a new riding mower; it really sucked doing it by hand 2 times - sucked for my kids, that is. 😛 )
 
I remember the days when I COULD walk 2-3 miles...or 7 miles.

Nowadays, with the FUBAR'd knee and back, a stroll through the grocery store just about does me in.

Good for you OP. Walking is good exercise. Just be sure to wear GOOD walking shoes. At that weight, your feet NEED good support.

That's horrible for the kids :| I would've said no 🙂
 
OP, if you can join a gym with a pool, try swimming. Perfect exercise for people like us (I am abou 20 pounds lighter than you). I dropped 80 pounds over the course of about a year when I was in grad school, mainly by swimming. I would swim a mile 3 or 4 times a week with some lifting and other exercise mixed in. The swimming is basically no impact and provides smooth, constant resistance over the whole body, so this minimizes stress related injuries from exercise. The only down side is that the facilities generally aren't free.
