Let's do some math here.
Take the amount it will cost to attend 4 years of Devry ($80,000? not sure. don't flame me.)
Also, consider during those 4 years you could have been working full time . Say you only made $10/hour which is approximately $20k/year. Meaning during those 4 years you could've made $80k.
So going to Devry and not going but working full time at $10/hour is a difference of approximately $160k. a lot of money you say? Well, if you think your Devry education will outweigh the $160k, than it's worth it. Think about that point.
Another case in point. Everyone's situation is highly unique. AT members who say they have close to no education/degree and making $100k, sure that's great. Same thing happens on the flip side. You also have to consider the times we live in now and the job market has evolved so much. I have worked for a manager who was from Devry. HOWEVER, he has been there for a while. The job market has changed a lot. When you graduate from Devry, you have to keep in mind you're competing against a feirce competitive class of highly educated students from all the IVY leagues, UCs(if you live in cali), private schools, 4 year public schools, etc. etc. You also have to consider protecting yourself from getting your job outsourced to India where they get paid $4k/year upwards of $20k/year if you have 10-15 years experience and are upper management. A lot(25%) of helpdesk/IT support/remote desktop support/telemarketings jobs will be outsourced in the next 2 years. THe next big country to take our jobs will be China.
If I were you in your shoes, I would not go to Devry. As most people will tell you it is work experience that will get you into a better career. I would in this order, go to a jc, transfer to a 4 year public university. During this time, be agressive in finding a job/internship/co-op/something . Joining ROTC is always an option since they will cover vast majority of your school bills. Joining Air Force ROTC will grant you a starting pay job in the los angeles region at approximately 42k give or take 3k. Look into other options. I agree that Devry is in the business of education. They need people to enroll to pay their teachers , administrators, etc. It's all a big business and I hope you understand that. Universities are also a business, but they will most of the time not compromise on grades or selling students to come. You need to talk to recent(after 2001) Devry grads and see where they are in life. That's my $.22 .
Best of luck.
