I knew this thread would turn out well. I had no idea there would be Halo bashing though.
Are you talking about my post?
I wasn't bashing Halo, it's just a different experience and a different kind of gamer that will spend a lot of time with a Wii and one who will spend a lot of time in Halo 3.
At the end of the day, the Wii is a system that you can enjoy great 1st party titles on like SMG and MP3, and occasionally get the good or great 3rd party title like Zak and Wiki.
Wii definitely gets the bulk of the shovelware tho, Ninjabread Man, a crappy port of every CG movie based game out there with waggle tacked on for good measure. You really have to watch where you put your money or you'll end up with a game that was perfectly good on the PS3 and XBox 360, but was turned to shit by forcing wiimote/nunchuk action on the Wii, like Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Better is quite subjective these days for consoles. Actually, it has been for most of eternity.. the dreamcast was a pretty damn good system. Look what happened to it. There is no better really, just more in tune of what YOU like specifically.Originally posted by: CasioTech
The only reason the wii is winning in sales is because it's everyones SECOND console. Whoever owns a Wii does it in addition to a real console. That said, if the Wii is everyones supplementary (2nd) console, it will have the greatest number of sales. Doesn't make it the better system.

And how the hell is the Wii not a "real" console?

It's not real because there isn't all those games filled with sex and violence.
And for those dense people here, I really should put <sarcasm> tags around my comment.

What you need to understand is that Nintendo only makes 1 first party game per generation for all it's franchises. So there WILL NOT be another Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros, Zelda, most likely. You can forget about 3rd party titles, without capcom (and their predictable style and gameplay) there are no other good 3rd party devs.

It also appeals to the masses the same way a ps2 does. Devs can easily develop for it (low budget) and the ps2 was the first console where the balance of gameplay and graphics reached the point where the consumer can be happy forever with the quality and value of games, much like what the SNES did.

because a real console has to compete with todays cutting edge. A console made to last until 2011 with the capabilities of 2001 xbox is what makes nintendo take a step back in gaming evolution.
motion controls? Fine, evolve the hardware for todays standards, not making ps2/gamecube/ds quality games.
Luckily for nintendo, their 'market' is children so they don't need state of the art tech to power their consoles. And people who rave about playing old school Mario games? Is that really a reason to buy the console? To play games from 1988?
It would be a LIE to say that "grandma" can pick up the wiimote with nunchuck and play Metroid Prime 3 or No More Heroes. The Wiimote is no easier than using a regular controller.
