There's a good amount of decent third party stuff out there, you just have to sift through the piles of "Hannah Montana Dance Crap" to get to it. Not unlike the PS2.

Haha someone else sees it too. I forgot about that one.

Rayman isn't my cup of tea and it's been done before. Metal Slug has been done 1000 times, I'm waiting for the port for my microwave's micro controller and LCD display since the one on my Cell phone isn't compatible. Medal of Honor, Battlefield, Call of Duty, <insert WW2 or modern combat clone of choice> = been there done that 100 times over on the PC since 1998. Guitar Hero, well I was never into DDR either, same exact game with a new title.

Chronotrigger, Final Fantasy 2 & 3, Street Fighter II, Super Metroid, Front Mission, Rock & Roll Racing, Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, the list is endless. How I long for those days where I anticipated so many games months before they came out. I haven't felt as overwhelmed by gaming since the SNES was in it's prime :(

Seems nobody wants to make a deep game anymore. Instead its all about getting the most shallow game, hide its limited depth and scope with high replay value (ie: Guitar Hero and most party games) and make a bunch of ports and sequels that take 2 weeks and rake in the cash. The goal in game production these days is rapid turn around, maximum reuse of old content, 3 month refresh cycles, and maximum shelf price.

Give me a modern game on the new platforms that dwarfs Xenogears or Final Fantasy III (6j) in depth, time invested, and reward in completion. Didn't think so, I don't see it happening either.

High dollar home console games should not feel like disposable $5 cell phone quickies.

PS: Just went to Gamestop.com to check whats out and whats the first thing I see? Turok and Tiger Woods...

You just named like the top 10 games of all time. Chances are, we will not be seeing games like these for quite some time. I can only see Okami and maybe the next Metal Gear Solid as the only ones coming close to those in status. And those games came out over a span of several years, so it is easy to pick and choose from the past, but at any given time, the truely good ones are few and far in between.

They weren't spaced out far at all when you consider these "top 10 games of all time" came out in one generation on one system.

I'm not to happy with the 360 or Wii either, but at least I have at least 4 games each to make those systems somewhat worthwhile. Metroid Prime 3? Zelda? Dead Rising? Bioshock? I'll be more than happy to check out any PS3 games anyone says are on par with those, that IS ONLY AVAILABLE ON PS3 and not on 5 other platforms.

I'm a bit hard on the PS3 due to Sony's hype machine and I'm glad it bit them in the ass with their "10 million times faster than a PC and quadruple 1080p at 100000 fps" claims the entire time. But I would honestly like a reason to add one to my collection, if not just to have a Cell platform to code on.

[Your last paragraph was stupid, so I got tired and just cut it out.]

ANYWAY Aren't these posts a bit OT? By the way, Zelda wasn't that great of a game, and Metroid Prime 3, while solid, isn't what you would call revolutionary (though it is the only Wii game I love the controls for). Also, Bioshock, seriously? Go play some SS2 :p I just thought your post was funny, so I edited it.

I liked Bioshock because it satisfied some of the hunger left by SS2. It's no replacement for SS2, but it's close enough to at least get a fix, instead of playing SS2 for the 100th time ;) (yes I've played it almost that much and always on the hard mode where stuff spawns right behind you and it burns an entire weekend. The first time I beat it everything sounded computerized and digitized in real life because I had the headphones on for over 48 hours straight)

Nice sig btw lol.

I admit I was spoiled by the golden age of the SNES days. It won't be easy getting something passed me without criticism having to live up to those expectations. Nothing has had me setting my alarm clock to pick up a new release they way the SNES did. Well Xenosaga III, Metroid Prime 3 kinda did, but thats just because I had a major Xenogears and Metroid binge and replayed them all back to back one week and was craving more...

I'm looking forward to RE4, is that going to be multi platform? My understanding is it's only 360 and Wii? Seems odd for Capcom though. I hope it's an exploration and suspense game like the first one or like CV, and not another lame shoot em up.

And I'd really wish we'd start getting co-op in the single player story games... (Dead Rising, Resident Evil, Zelda, Metroid, Half-Life, etc with co-op and not just glorified monopoly and pong party games or shallow one sitting shoot em ups like Halo GoW). How bout Half Life 2 where one person is Freeman and the other is Alex, both running around doing different parts of the game? Maybe the buggie won't be there for you if the player playing Alex didn't previously succeed in putting it there for you...

Have you ever played SS2 with the multi player coop patch? It's damn awesome, and thats saying a lot considering the game was NEVER intended to be multi player in it's inherent level and event layout and is just 2 players running the single player mode side by side. Think if you started out in different parts and had to fend for yourselves for hours before you ran into each other, and got separated due to triggered events or having to do different tasks because the games puzzles were explicitly designed for multiple players...

I'd rather have had randomly encountered my friend in the other room fending off zombies than some stupid AI thats holding a machine gun but get just stands there and gets mugged...

Bomberman and Mario Party are good in the way that board games are for simple quick goofing around, but I'd like some story mode coop games with some severe depth and suspense to burn entire weekends with friends all playing for the first time... and I mean games as deep as the best single player games, not just an arcade shoot em up like GoW.

You mean RE5? I thought that was only going to hit the HD consoles? This is going to be the problem with the Wii and those big games... no one wants to develop yet another version, and have to redo the graphics for it.. and if they do, it'll be a craptastic job so people can pull the graphics are horrid card (and they'll be rightfully doing so).

As for Mario Party... I HATED it.. haha.. as well as the DS version. Never played any other version of it. I prefer RRR1/2 for some quick coop fun. Or elebits even.

I completely forgot about excite truck... I had a lot of fun with that game. I've sorta stopped, but pick it up in a blue moon. It was far more entertaining to watch two drunk friends play... haha

fair enough. but it must be noted that at that time, the SNES enjoyed a playstation1-like dominance, which meant pretty much the majority of all the good games were being released for one system. Since we have three fairly successful systems, there is a lot more dispersion. if you combine any two of the three, then the library becomes a bit more respectable, especially this early into the generation.

We loaded up Mario Party 4 on the Wii the other night after probably 2-3 years of never touching it on the Gamecube. It's just as much fun as I always remember it being. I can't speak to what the Wii version is like, but I loved the older N64 and Gamecube iterations. Now I keep thinking I should try to track down 2 more Wavebird controllers before they're all gone :).

I had one, sold it. Probably shouldn't have. But I hated the extra crap sticking out of the wii, heh. I'm hoping nintendo decides to make a bluetooth one that will still interface properly w/ the GC games. it's a slim chance in hell... but I can hope.. haha

you bought GHIII?! Harmonix is reissueing the game if you mail in the old one because there is a glitch that only allows the sound to be outputted as stereo rather than Dolby Pro Logic II.

No big worries. We were having fun on my friend's crappy 27" TV hooked up to a boombox for sound. We never even missed the stereo/dolby support. We were too engrossed in the game.

What?!! You're having fun playing a game without an HDTV and a 7.1 surround system?!!? HOW DO YOU DO IT?!

Answer: The same way we did when we were kids, when graphics and sound weren't so important.

Activision & NeverSoft published and developed GHIII. Harmonix had nothing to do with GHIII.

The bug that inexplicably made it past QA was that the sound was being output in MONO! It sounds more absurd every time I read about it. A game that is all about music and they can't get a friggin' $99 receiver that shows that the same audio is being output from each channel.

Harmonix-developed Rock Band destroys GHIII in every category other than "Most excessive, unrealistic difficulty on the last tier of Expert". But while a version of Rock Band is likely coming out for the Wii, it hasn't been officially announced. I believe NFS previously mentioned that he owns other consoles as well, so that's always an option.

They make a version for the Wii?

It would be fun though. We all kept taking turns playing on a single guitar (me, my best friend, his GF and my GF).

All were kicking my ass (with the exception of my GF) on the practice songs (we've never played any guitar heroes before). They were hitting 87% after a couple of tries. I was at 77%.

Glad you're still enjoying it. As fanboyish as gaming conversations get, I doubt there's anyone that hopes you don't enjoy it. :p

Oh, and since you posted your Rock Band question on January 13th, they have officially announced a version for the Wii.

LOL I hardly play on my Wii. Maybe it's because of all the great games on PC lately and the lack of many great games on Wii.

Cool, when is it coming out?

I just HAD to buy another copy of Guitar Hero III for my Wii. I took my Wii over to my buddy's house on Friday night and everyone was fighting to play with the one controller -- this was in between our Wii Bowling tournament and hours of "nostalgic" Super Mario Brothers playing.

Toys R Us had the bundle on sale for $69.99 this week so I bought another set just for the guitar and will sell the game on eBay.

I'm hoping the Wii rekindles my interest in gaming, as its been on the downturn the last few years (with a few games here and there keeping my interest, namely Burnout and a few others that I'm forgetting).
