I used to play video games a ton as a kid, but then around high school/college I just stopped. Partially because I got into PC games, but also because console gaming was expensive.

I first got a Wii and I was immediately back into video games. It's fun, easy to pick up, and great in groups.

The biggest issue with the Wii and its games is depth - there just isn't much. When I finally realized this, I wanted more, so I got a 360 and never looked back. The Wii was kind of like a gateway drug back into playing video games.

I haven't played it since maybe July/August.

It's nice in small doses, but if you overdo it you will just end up resenting the purchase. I also think the nostalgia effect plays a big part in it, too - but since I was never obsessed with classic Nintendo games I was never taken in by it, I guess.

I sort of feel the same way. Was a gaming addict throughout middle school untill late in my highschool years, and kind of stopped for other tail chasing activities in college. Durring that time, I played SC and CS online from time to time b/c I didn't have to dedicate so much time to it. Jump in for a quick battle and leave.

I picked up a Wii for my daughter's B-day, and it's turned me into an addict again. Started off playing Paper Mario, then Striker, then MP3, and decided to pick up Bioshock for my PC with a Video card update. Since then, I've played Gears, COD, and Portal. Finished them all.

I'm still playing the Wii as I got her Carnival games for Xmas, and Galaxy for myself. Galaxy is a blast, and I just picked up Nights.

Gateway drug is a good name for it. After I got an apartment with some of my non-gamer friends. I was pretty much done with games other than the occasional round of CS or whichever retro-game I convinced my roommate to play. I got a Wii because I figured it was new and different and would be fun to play with the GF, family and friends. After Zelda, Warioware and Rayman I was hooked again and started buying more Wii games. Then I got TF2 and Portal, then I picked up WoW and now I've got a 360. I'm still enjoying my Wii though. It's by far my favorite system right now.

I'd say its the best 3d zelda to date. Enjoyed every second of it. Wind waker was "meh", majora was "huh?", and OoT was "wtf, overrated".

But yeah to the OP - there is absolutely no contradiction between enjoying hardcore games and enjoying "casual" (I prefer softcore :p) games. I love my PC, Wii, 360 and Dreamcast all equally, for their own reasons. Being able to enjoy games with my GF that she actually *wants* to play makes it worth its weight in gold IMO.

But a wii thread wouldnt be a wii thread if purbeast didnt jump in and tell us how his wii is collecting dust, MP3 sucked, and SMG is the *only* game worth playing on the wii, and if randay didnt make a failed attempt at a sarcastic comment while trying to hide his pathological sony fanboyism. :p

And I'd say it is the worst, or perhaps tied with MM. OoT is by far the best. WW at least had a unique visual style and unique characters. Majora's Mask, while a shootoff, has intriguing events and an unusual plot. TP just seemed generic and uninspired. However, it was by no means a bad game. TP was rock solid, but nothing more.

I have to agree with purbeast on at least a few points. My Wii has started to collect dust for the second time, and SMG is the only truly amazing game on the system in my eyes. However, I loved MP3 as well, but due to the content and gameplay, realize that it could be difficult for others to approach. Still, I would purchase the damn system for SSBB alone, and I desperately await that game's release.

Count me in as another Wii convert. My PC games are getting lonely as I "discovered" GH3 and have to fight the kids and wife as they play bowling and tennis constantly. Enjoying it on our 50in plasma just fine.

In all seriousness, all the systems probably gather dust for some people or for periods. I have a Game Cube I bought 5-6 years ago and it has collected dust for periods of time too, I dust it of now and then and it gets some lovin for a while. I bought PS2 last spring because the are inexpensive and there are tons of game out there and I can borrow them from a friend who has alot. Same thing with it, it collects dust sometimes. Can't play 'em all all the time.

So the "it collect dust" argument just falls flat. It just depends who who is crapping in who's thread.

Enjoy your systems and argue points - thats alot more useful.

I think he meant the system actually collects dust quite a bit... not that it sits idle.

We got that picture, and we get that picture from whoever's system (whatever it is) is collecting dust quite abit. My point is, anyone who is board with their console likes to crap in the thread concerning that console ... my casual observation anyway.

well, yes, I know. But it seemed like your response implied his ps3 got no use. whatever, doesn't matter, it's NFS4's thread on his wii... play till his arm falls off... wait.. that didn't sound right....

Wii is fun with friends. After trauma and a few other games it collects single player dust compared to pc/360, but I don't regret my decision at all. I do love the system and I 100% agree on feeling like a giddy little kid...I'm just waiting for all the crap games to die down and for companies to really learn to utilize the controller. The wii is what got me back into gaming though.

annnnd,

I love nintendo with all my heart, I'm pretty sure my nes/snes raised me : P

wii is an excellent system and there are actually quite a few great games for it, but because first party titles have such a high profile, the third party lineup is often overlooked. Since you are new, a few titles to look into (besides SMG):

Batallion Wars 2 <~ OMG BUY IT NOW!!!!
Zack and Wiki
Resident Evil: UC
Ghost Squad
Trama Center: Second Opinion
Medal of Honor 2 <~ best online FPS, imho.
Guilty Gear XX
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Metal Slug Anthology
Metroid Prime 3
Twilight Princess
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Super Paper Mario
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
SSX: Blur
Guitar Hero

i think it's sad that there are so many overlooked gems in the wii game library, so definitely give the 3rd party a bit of support!

and lastly, whenever Purbeast0 posts in a Wii thread, kindly reply with the following quote:

alright, we get it. you hate your wii

:p

I just got a Wii over the weekend also and the wife and I love it.

My brother got one over Christmas and we played it a bit and that was all it took for us to want one.

I had to go nearly an hours drive just to get it since it as the only place I could find, but well worth the trip as we're very happy with our purchase.

I'm looking into a few of the games atm and am looking forward to seeing what else is out there for it.

So far we of course have the Wii Sports and also picked up the Wii Play since it came with another controller that we needed.

Unfortunately that feeling will wear off after about 3 or 4 exclusive Nintendo titles (ie: Mario, Zelda, Metroid) and once you realized everything else is more of the same Sponge Bob, Dora the Explorer, Pokemon, Spider Man and Scooby Doo, from the discounted Gamecube bin marked as Wii titles for $49.99, it will find little use as more than a dust magnet.

Not bashing the Wii or anything, it's worth it just for those exclusives. I have every console back to the SNES and SegaCD up to a Wii and 360. The PS3 is the only system I don't care for; it's geared for the 16 yr old Fast and the Furious hypnotized Akuma/Sephiroth wanna be blue LED earing wearing crowd of bleached blond blue tipped fan boys. (And so is Halo for the most part...)

For me, nothing has ever come close to the greatness that is/was the SNES. Nothing beats the smell of a hot SNES cartridge after a 20 hour Final Fantasy or Street Fighter 2 session.

But as long as you have a Wii, you need to get Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. ;)

I was able to get a Wii on the Dec 24th and have been having fun with it although Crysis keeps distracting me :) My son likes the Looney Tunes Acme Labs game.

I haven't spent too much time playing it yet but when I did check it out it was fun, not quite TF2 (PC) fun but still fun. I thought the graphic were pretty horrible even for the Wii but it ran without a hitch so I suppose that makes up for it..

There's a good amount of decent third party stuff out there, you just have to sift through the piles of "Hannah Montana Dance Crap" to get to it. Not unlike the PS2.

No, rather the fact that I have every game console ever made in the last 20 years EXCEPT the PS3 speaks volumes for the PS3s game choices and desirable exclusive titles. Give me something more than Gran Turismo 14351 and Need for Speed 3047173 and ports of sports games available on 15 other consoles. And for the love of all that is gaming stop the incessant Akuma/Sephiroth inspired Devil May Cry games with 733t shallow white spiky haired aZn characters that are just too cool for themselves (the 16 year old Fast and the Furious market I previously mentioned).

I'm not to happy with the 360 or Wii either, but at least I have at least 4 games each to make those systems somewhat worthwhile. Metroid Prime 3? Zelda? Dead Rising? Bioshock? I'll be more than happy to check out any PS3 games anyone says are on par with those, that IS ONLY AVAILABLE ON PS3 and not on 5 other platforms.

I'm a bit hard on the PS3 due to Sony's hype machine and I'm glad it bit them in the ass with their "10 million times faster than a PC and quadruple 1080p at 100000 fps" claims the entire time. But I would honestly like a reason to add one to my collection, if not just to have a Cell platform to code on.
