I am trying it, slick smart, just great for me... oh btw, screwed up my slack on my server the other night, thank god for knoppix, that saved me many hours, maybe even days... and thank you, if not for you, i would never have known about it...

You make a great contribution to this forum, and you aren't "silly"...

Why konquerer always sucked, try a real browser... try phoenix..
Not to nitpick but, 2003-04-15: Phoenix renamed to Mozilla Firebird ;)

Yeah, and as one of the developers i do believe i have the right to call it whatever i want, the name MozillaFirebird (no space) is just stupid...

So i will continue to call it phoenix, as one of the people who developed it, i do believe i have a right to call it whatever i want...
Is that a fact!?!. Damn didn't know that you been working on the project (my favorite browser :cool;). But wasent there a copyright thing that forced the name change?? Firebird sounds pretty cool to me. Did you have a saying in the name change?

You are correct, the phoenix brand name belongs to phoenix (the bios software manufacturer) but MozillaFirebird is a horrible name, it will not stick for long, there have been other name contributions like simplix, which are already taken... i like the name Crown myself... it works, it is short and memerable and it has no patency rights what so ever, you cannot ever make crown your tm... so it will work...

If someone has a better name, i am all ears of course...

Hmmmm, I rather like the way "Crown" sounds. Nice and very *flashy*, but then only if the default theme had more gold and less chrome (and the same slick professionalism of the "modern" theme).

There is a reason you guys didn't know, and all requests have to go through the channels unless you have extensive experience of OpenBSD... right now, we are filtering out the last bugs from that port...

Yeah, i like it too, and i agree, more gold and less silverish... although i always install "minimalistic" right after downloading... cuz i like my screenspace clean... but... ehh... maybe somewhere in between... i am no designer, not by any means, i usually come up with horrible design solutions, but i will write down anything and pass it on to the guys who do that part...

If i got dressed by myself, most people would turn away just because of the horrible combinations... what is wrong with light-green and purple anyway?. ;)

Thank you very much my friend... your words mean that another night of programming is worth it all... the reward for an OS programmer is the value the users put on his software... so thank you very much...

I got my energy resources filled for hours of work, i do this work outside of my regular job, it's 02.40 in sweden... sleep is for the weak... heh...

Am I the only one who sees this OS this way? Cuz I totally dig the UNIX portion of it...but even that.... you can't execute a program in UNIX and have it pop up on the screen like typing calc on a command prompt. I found that very odd.

No you're not the only one who views that crime-against-humanity of an OS that way. I hate it with every fiber of my being. They destroyed the logical unix-type filesystem and slapped a huge, bloated gui on it and prayed for it all to work. My linux/BSD experience was of no help to me the first time I tried to use OS X.

Shanteli you probably have years of experience on your other OSes. So the learning begins again.

Very Basics: http://www.apple.com/macosx/learning/

article

Sasha's basics

Ars Technica - Macintoshian Achaia

Then there are lots of books.

Myself I'm not sure if I like OS X or not.

Ah, but you can get another toolbox if the current one does not suit you... the truth... i love my powerbook, i just to.. it is a wonderful piece of hardware, but osx sucks to me... so i use another OS, if i couldn't i would rather put the powerbook under the wheel of my car than use it...

You get my point, i abhore the os it is delivered with, thankfully, you can change that and make this thin piece of aluminum quite a great piece of machinery with another os... i love it with everything i put on it except OSX....

Mac OS is supposedly the holy grail of computer user interfaces, yet, when I want to move a window around, I have to peck at a little 15 pixel bar to do so. I can use any X11 window manager and grab at the whole window by holding the alt key. Same deal for resizing/right mouse button. Mac OS is full of things like that. It's designed great for people who don't "get" computers, but I "get" computers, and I prefer a gui to do as little as possible and in general behave how I tell it to and otherwise get the fsck out of the way, Mac OS's gui doesn't do that, at all. If I want to try to modify Mac Os's gui, apple will make it difficult and/or stop me, perhaps even legally, if I distributed my "tweaks" or whatever. Like I said, I prefer my computer to do what I want it to, and otherwise, leave the thinking to me, Mac's are nearly the polar opposite of that.

- But I'm not saying that I'd never buy a Mac. :)

SnapIT,

This is getting all a bit silly. I respect your personal preferences as to OS X being sucky. Note that I haven't derided any of the other people who just don't like the way OS X works. I took objection to what you were saying about OS X ruining the UNIX standards. I still stand by that belief as I think they're a textbook example of how a company can play nice with UNIX, open standards and open source.

Getting back to the post that probably lit a flame under your butt, the reason I think it's ludicrous to have done what you did is because you can do whatever you want on OS X without having to install Linux and OpenBSD on your powerbook first. Case in point, here are two screengrabs of me running KDE from within OS X (I could very well have chosen GNOME and yes you can even run fluxbox). Perhaps I shouldn't have used such a harsh term in the word "ludicrous". And in hindsight, if you are so utterly opposed to OS X then it probably does make more sense to wipe it off your drive and run another OS. Still, running via OS X CLI or KDE/GNOME desktop environments on top of OS X can also make a lot of sense. Different strokes for different folks. If I offended you, which it sounds like I have, then I apologize. Now, I _will_ just leave this thread as it is. I suggest we both have more productive things to do than be stubborn anyhow:D
