This was a .dmg I'm willing to bet. Dmg's can be scripted to delete themselves after a successful installation (*which I personally think is handy but oh well)

To Safari? honestly I don't know as I do not personally use Safari...

Here's the idea. Applications usually do not need to install anything else as the base system extensions are within the applicaiton itself. Any additiuons are usually stored in either your home folder (* for example ~/Library/Preferences) If there are any user wide modifications needed its stored within /Library. Non-apple applications are not supposed to install anything into /System....its reserved for OS only anything installed within could easily be broken on an update.

So if you need to uninstall anything its as easy as deleting the applicatoin. If you need to re-install only then do you really have to worry about ~/Library/Preferences if you want it to revert to default settings.

This is considered a preference type folder....there is not a system wide "favorites" folder in reverence to bookmarks.
