...it makes my 24" lcd on my PC look like a midget! I just got the new Mac Mini too! GF said one has to go.

BTW 27" is the way to go on the new iMacs, I originally wanted a 21.5" as it would fit better on my desk, but was talked out of it by the GF.

LOL!

$640 shipped for a one month old Mac Mini (with receipt). LOL!

yeah the wierd resolution 16:9 is odd 2560x1440 i'm not sure sure i like that monitor. 16:10 is far more appealing to me (2560x1600).

There is only one IPS 27" display panel, and its LG's 2560x1440 panel. Its also used in Dell's U2711 monitor. Every other 27" monitor on market is 1080p. To have 2560x1600 they'd have to bump it to a 30" iMac and tack on $500 or more.

Although I have never used a 30" the resolution and pixel density is pretty amazing... I don't think I could see myself missing 160 pixels vertically.

It is a beautiful display. It is a real shame Apple can't figure out a way to get a GPU in the 27" iMac that would give person a reasonable chance to run a modern game at the native res with high quality graphic settings.

Ha, that's epic. 27'' is the size of my TV. Did you go for broke and get the quad core i5? Actually comes with a fairly decent GPU. HD 5750.

Why did you get the mac mini?

It came out a month before and I wanted it? LOL!

Was gonna keep it and use it on my 42" if I got the 21.5" iMac. 🙂

Doesn't the 27" have video in? So you could have both machines hooked up to it?

Also, stop "LOL!"-ing. Thanks.

I like mine too. Thought 27' would be way overkill but now it seems like a must have.
Still getting use to the mac way of doing things, however.

true-- but i still rather use an external monitor w/ 2560x1600 😀

Right, but if you are in the market for a new OEM, and want a big honking screen... the iMac 27 is a pretty fair deal. Especially if you consider that the standalone Dell 27" display with the same panel (and is matte, and apparently blurry due to the AG coating and high DPI) is ~$1000 and the cheapest 30" that I have seen is $1200 (maybe it is $1150, it is almost never in stock anyway).

And this is an IPS display, with an LED backlight.

So, if I was already willing to spend $1200 or so on a new 30" monitor to go with your new OEM system (this is assuming that you are in the market for both), why not get the 27" iMac for $1700?

On newegg, before I even got to the case/psu/OS/keyboard/mouse, I was at $1600 for a Core i3, MicroATX mobo, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 5670 GPU and 30" monitor.

So, yea, if a person (like me) was in the market for a non-gaming system, that can run OS X, in that price range, and with that size monitor... I wouldn't think twice about the iMac, except to decide if I wanted the Corei3 or the Core i5.

It is one of the more competitively priced Macs there are.
