Just got a call from my ISP

And my Internet connection is on the verge of being disconnected. Last week I did have a virus infection on one of my computers ... something called Spysherrif which also changed my wallpaper to something with a message in the center telling me that my computer has been infected .. no sh*t!

Anyone heard of this Spysherrif crap?

Sorry. If you have Spy Sherrif which is an offshoot of the Look2Me spyware. Basically if you don't have a lot of data on your computer, format your unit. Otherwise, do a backup and then format and reinstall Windows. Make sure that if you do not have Windows with SP2 on a CD then do not connect your box to the net. After reinstalling use another box to download and burn SP2 to a cd and install that.

YEP!!!

Format and then reinstall OS. After that put on Spybot, adaware, and mircosofts anti-spyware software (ALL free). A decent firewall would not hurt either.

Thanks for the reponses guys. Formatting is not an option at this time as I am VERY busy with exams and plus I have a lot of data to backup and the ISP's not going to hold off any longer.

I am running scans right now so I can catch this basta*d!

I think it's all good now. Got rid of Spysherrif once and for all, hopefully. I guess I am not a n00b after all .

edit: I do have Zone Alarm running right now at maximum security levels. I had it turned off for some reason when I got the virus a week ago.
