The bottom line is that the OP bought the best system available today, how much he paid is pretty much irrelevant. Cost is a relative thing...if you earn $5k/week, then $6k for a top end computer isn't that bad.

After all, it is the OPs money -- not any of ours :D

And there's nothing stupid about a 4800+.

Too much money, but if you enjoy it, I guess that's all that matters.

Wife was alittle ify about it but I told her I would look into getting her a new house so that sealed the deal right there :p
I've bought my wife a new house and van in the last 6 months and she still raises an eyebrow when I buy new parts. :p

This thread is exactly why I dispise the internet sometimes.

Seriously, when someone creates a post like this all the ability for man kind to be petty and jealous is exposed.

Why do people flame? Why do people take sides? Why are people 'fan boys'?

It's a constant quest for those who made their decision to find a way to deal with and or to justify their decision as to come to the conclusion that their decision was the best.

If they can cut down those above them in the process, all the better.

The man buys a product, he pays what he felt comfortable paying, past that, it's NONE of your problem. NOBODY here has any right to fight or complain in this decision.

It will be a top notch system, for atleast a few months. If it's worth it to him, then great.

Not only is he happy but he helps the global economy in the process.

Why dont we all try something new and for once be happy for someone else.

I for one celebrate his purchase and wish him much joy from it.

Seriously, you want to know why the worlds going to hell in a hand basket? Just post something on an internet forum and you'll soon know why.

Technically, no, not life... but people, in general, sometimes yes. I must admit day to day I experience certain people who restore my faith in humanity, however, as time goes by those people are fewer and further apart.

I blame SUV's as a gateway to the downfall of civilized society. People gain power from a metal machine, they abuse that power and soon start to believe they are entitled to that power.

something that would probably crush that Alienware, PLUS a living room set.

how could it crush that Alienware? He already has the best parts....

It is called phasechange and custom built watercooling and building it yourself. I am putting together a computer for a friend with a 10,000 budget and I will let you all know how I make out with budget and components. Definitely phasechange and watercooled but beyond that I haven't started building yet. Yes, 10,000 and no I would never build such a system for myself but he wants the best and wants to splurge on this. Who am I to say no to such a fun project!

Nice Alienware setup, but I would have gotten something from Monarch instead of Alienware.

That's one hell of a system, but here's my budget:

System built by these guys: ~3000
Roll of duct tape: 5

3000+5>6000 and you wouldn't have to worry about the little tyke.

Hey man great Machine you will enjoy it. I personally not even for the expense part have a policy of building my machines. I do because I love to do it, nothing more I love then the feeling of a job well done after working on my favorite hobby. I am not one to say spending that much on a machine is wrong, I think if you feel like spending a given amount on a machine is worth it both performance and time saved wise then I say more power to you.

You whould post your 3dmark05 scores whenever you get a chance, and again enjoy your powerhouse I have a feeling it will treat you very well.

I agree. Nothing is most pleasurable than being done and just looking at your own creation. I used to buy pretty expensive systems, but the first one I built and for half the cost of the ones I've bought is by far my favorite system. However everyone has a value on their time and sometimes dropping a huge premium on a pre-built machine is actually a cost savings.

I have to admit that I agree with your take on SUVs. Have you seen the attitude of some of these people on the road? They seriously act like they own the road.
