Actually that isnt the stupid part, the 4800+ is the nice part. The 6k dollar Alienware ALX computer that comes with it is the stupid part. I have always built my own computer and this is the first computer I've bought since the K-6 2 days. Flame on!!

--EDIT--

The reason behind this was I really dont have enough time to sit and research everything and sit down and put one together due to the fact that i have a 17 month old kid that likes to stick everything in site in his mouth.

thats what the general hardware forum is for, get other people to do it for you, and building a PC doesn't take 5 minutes ;)

I wonder what your wife said... the parts on your new computer are worth like $4k tops, and I'd venture to include labor cost into that same figure. But hey, if you can afford it and you dont mind, then the more power to you.

Wife was alittle ify about it but I told her I would look into getting her a new house so that sealed the deal right there :p

You'll love your computer, it's similar to me. Hopefully the water cooling is of good quality, so you can overclock high.

Hey man great Machine you will enjoy it. I personally not even for the expense part have a policy of building my machines. I do because I love to do it, nothing more I love then the feeling of a job well done after working on my favorite hobby. I am not one to say spending that much on a machine is wrong, I think if you feel like spending a given amount on a machine is worth it both performance and time saved wise then I say more power to you.

You whould post your 3dmark05 scores whenever you get a chance, and again enjoy your powerhouse I have a feeling it will treat you very well.

Well the good part [relatively] is that Alienware does a bit of overclocking for you, and does some pretty stirigent stability testing. So once you turn it on, you know it'll work hands down. Sometimes peace of mind is worth the extra $2000 :)

lol, i live in Iceland, everything here is expensive, so you get a lot of money.

2500$ is normal salary you get here, but still VERY low. good salary, that is, if you have a good jo, then the salary is about 3500$ - 5000$

Now that is money :p

For 6 large you can get two identicle computers that's only about 10% worse in terms of performance. Sorry, definitely not worth it.

Come on son! I don't usually do this (waste of time), but in a hypothetical with up to $6k, why not!?

Athlon XP 4400+ $545
DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR $163
BFG GeForce 7800GTX OC X2 $515
OCZ ModStream 520W PSU $125

NEC ND-3540A $40
Western Digital Raptor 74GB X 2 $183 X 2
Maxtor 300GB Maxline III $136
XP Pro $146
Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers $267
Dell 2405fpw $1019 (much cheaper on deals)
or
Dell 2005fpw X2 $559 X 2 (much cheaper on deals)
... too lazy to pick a case, floppy, keyboard or mouse

Total: $3624 plus tax or $3723 for dual 2005fpw's (again, you can save about $200+ on the monitors).

Ah! I could only imagine what I could do with 6ks... I mean... even a 4k... wait... 3k computer! Including a 24" UltraSharp monitor. So many alternatives...

You could've even gotten dual core dual processors (Opterons) for 6ks... ... on SLI... and 4Gb of RAM...

Gosh.
