Perfect weather for it. Family and friends over and cooked a bunch. There’s lots of leftovers so I’m going to make a thing of jambalaya probably or something.

It’s delicious, if you ever get a chance to have legit boiled crawfish don’t pass it up. And lot of the fun with it is the communal way of doing the boil and sitting around eating it.

Don’t let the looks scare you off, do you like shrimp or lobster? They have the exoskeletons too.

There’s a fantastic crawfish place right around the corner from me that we can walk to. They’re closed for about half the year but open up when it’s in season and is a really popular place to go drink some beer and eat tons of crawfish. They’ve got great poboys and other stuff for lunch too.

I’m not a fan of lobster, it tastes bland to me. I went to a conference in Newport and had the legit New England seafood boil and it was good but the folks I was with said "UC now that you’ve had real New England lobster which do you like better, it or crawfish" and the answer is crawfish any day of the week. If they were plain maybe lobster I dunno but crawfish is boiled in lots of spices that give it such a delicious flavor.

This stuff is gold

How expensive are crawfish compared to Lobster and crab? I thinking that they are cheap as they are very common in Southern areas.

Completely depends where you live and how the season is going. I didn’t pay for the one tonight so I’m not sure how much it cost per pound and I’m not sure how much lobster is going for, especially down here.

They got 30 lbs of crawfish and a big sack of shrimp so my guess would be they paid $150 for it all maybe? That fed us though and had six adults and some kids eating on it.

The texture is similar to lobster - springy. But obviously much smaller. Seasoning is the whole ballgame, unlike lobster where it's just butter and more butter.

Where in Louisiana again are you, Casanova? I forgot.

I have heard before that poor folks often catch and eat them regularly. Any truth to this?

I've been seeing about $4 a pound around New Orleans. That's still a bit high for me. I haven't had any yet at all this season.

Just got 4 lbs of huge snow crab for a great price. Got the tomato caprese put together in the fridge and as soon as the bread goes in the oven I'm gonna fire up the grill and grill some crab :) Seafood and BBQ, Im so glad wither is ending.

Yeah I see their mounds in the yard all the time, even up here. Grew up in Slidell and definitely saw there all the time. Too much work to do that though, I’ll just buy them.

For those that have never seen it how they raise them is in these shallow flooded fields. If you drive around Acadiana they’re everywhere. Just like rice fields but have lots of crawfish in them

Spicy seasoning is what makes it so addictive. I just sit around the table and tell myself to quit eating and I’m just going to have one more crawfish but can’t stop. Crawfish boil is the best food from Louisiana.

I know precisely what you mean. Since they're so small you can only eat small amounts at once, so you wind up eating a metric ton of them.

Plano is great though (if you have money). The whole Dallas area is absolutely booming.

Yeah that's why I'm going. Great job opportunity that I'd be foolish to pass up.

Think I'm going to rent out my New Orleans house though. My whole family is here and it'll give me more incentive to visit.

I used to catch them when I was a kid, but I forgot how. I'd probably get pinched if I tried it today.
