Finally having actual winter-cold temps. I've seen in the news the past few days that many parts of the U.S. are experiencing record cold temps, but it needs to get considerably colder to set records where I live. The local advisories for low temps and wind chill are still valid, obviously.

There were a few deaths in Portland, OR where power was out to a lot of residential neighborhoods (Portland had the majority of >110K U.S. homes without power over the weekend). Milwaukee, WI had several homeless deaths (from hypothermia, of course).

Our 4yo unit stopped working 1/1. The gas logs more than heat the house so no big deal other than IT'S 4 YEARS OLD. Turned it off for an hour, back on...nada. Guy showed up on 1/3...nothing wrong with it. Thanks for all the computer controlled shit in newer units. Told him he'd be back. Just hope it's not in the 95 degree summer.

Going to need to eat some spicy food to take care of that lol.

Had to put a heater close to my main water line, it was down to 10C in that general area. Would be bad news if that burst because that's before the valve, so no way to stop it.

Rest of house is fine though since it's still relatively warm out so actually been using the heaters seldomly.

They're coming tomorrow to do the furnace. Glad they were able to come this soon, as this is our cold time of year so the temp could drop fast any time.

At my place in FL it was 22 this morning. Sis in AL had 13. Daughter in TX had 16. Way too cold for the south. Glad I have a fireplace.

-14C here. It's a type of cold that goes right through though. Says it feels like -20 and that sounds about right.

HVAC guys are installing my new furnace right now. The electric heaters are keeping up though. I actually had to turn some of them down.

Sun's out. I can get back to normal. Shoveled snow out front today with the sun beaming down. Finally over freezing in E.Texas, after 2 days hibernating with snow on the ground and temps venturing no higher than 21°. Downright frigid hereabouts. It was 12°F overnight. 🥶 Furnace was set to 65° but never shut off. Had two space heaters going.

Pretty rare that we get most of a week in the 0-15 degree range. Maybe once every few years. Usually in the 20-40 range at the lowest.

Yesterday the girl dog and I ran about 11 miles. It was 8F warming to 18F by the finish, I was running hatless and gloveless because it was so warm out compared to the below zero temps we had. Even zero degrees isn't bad if the sun is out and there is no wind. Now we are going to head into a January thaw and lose all of the snow and ice we accumulated, bah. I love 4 seasons.

By the way, January is crawling by, it feels like January 47th today, and we're only 2/3 of the way through.
