I just got STUCK for a few minutes in my perfectly flat parking space because the ground is frozen solid 2 inches down with the top bit being pure liquid-mud!

Annoyingly I had to throw a packing blanket under the front wheels to get out and STILL managed to splatter mud all over my car lol .... obviously I'll be parking on the street later till things either dry up OR freeze completely again.

-7 and snowing. We have a special weather advisory as well so we might be getting hit with some real snow soon. So far it's mostly just been flurries. I'm almost at the point of needing snow shoes to go take snow off the solar panels but not quite there yet.

Environment Canada weather statement:

10:44 AM EST Tuesday 20 December 2022
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County
  • Strathroy - Komoka - Western Middlesex County

Significant winter storm expected late this week into the holiday weekend.

Precipitation may begin as rain or snow late Thursday before possibly transitioning to rain in many areas early Friday. Temperatures are expected to plummet on Friday leading to a potential flash freeze for locations that receive rainfall. Rapidly falling temperatures will be accompanied by strong to potentially damaging winds along with snow that may be heavy at times. Blizzard conditions are possible late Friday into the weekend for areas downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

A multi-day lake effect snow event is expected into the weekend in the wake of the system for locations east of the Great Lakes.

While there is high confidence in a high impact winter storm, the details regarding wind speeds, precipitation types and amounts remain highly uncertain at this time. Please monitor your local forecast and the latest alerts for your area.

Consider altering plans through the holiday weekend as travel conditions may become dangerous. Extensive utility outages are possible. Temperatures Friday night into the weekend will likely be the coldest of the season to date.

could be interesting.

Bomb cyclone might be my favorite.

Don't forget the closely related but distinct: "bombogenesis"
(NOAA.gov)

"a phenomenon or process in which there is rapid and sustained falling of barometric pressure in the center of a low-pressure system, indicative of its strengthening into a powerful storm."

"the storm will intensify rapidly, so quickly, in fact, that it will likely undergo bombogenesis"

Nothing here yet but looks like we'll be getting a decent amount of snow in next few days. 30cm or so over next few days.
Just hope it stays quiet at work over Christmas... I'm not working it this year but I could still end up being called in if it gets too busy.

Around here, chilly but dry (so far) but tomorrow, I get to drive about 150 miles (and back) to SeaTac airport to pick up my oldest grandson. There's been a fair amount of snow and ice in the Puget Sound region...with freezing rain predicted for late tomorrow. Then, I get to make the trip again on Monday to take him back to the airport.

they are the same thing.

We have advisories about cancelling traveling plans for the weekend due to the impending storm.

I don't plan on doing much anyway until Sunday when I will visit my GF for Christmas.

Close but not quite..... "bombogenesis" (verb) is the formation process of a "bomb-cyclone" (noun).

My point was that BOTH are silly made up names that exist purely to make weather reports sound more dramatic.

;)

And fortunately we'll only be getting rain/wind in coastal New England this time around. (no white Christmas BUT also no shoveling!)

-4 with snow and lot of wind. Only about 5-10cm predicted but I think we'll get lot of drifts from the wind.

As long as it stays below zero I'm happy. When it starts to go above, that's when things get messy.

Well this is a first: I have never seen a dewpoint this low, -3F, in San Antonio. Didn't even know humidity that low was possible as close to the Gulf of Mexico as we are. Even Corpus Christi right on the ocean has a current dewpoint of 6F.
