Pretty typical weather for the Washington coast for this time of year. Highs in the mid-40s to mid-50s, lows from the mid-30s to mid-40s...and rain...lots and lots of rain. Mostly light stuff, <0.5", but a couple of days where we're supposed to get an inch or more.

January not looking fun. Bit of a cold dooey coming in. Hopefully it won't last too long.

At least I won't be straddling the top of an F-106 Delta Dart trying to replace an antenna like I was doing one January a few decades ago during a snow storm.

Been really warm and slushy and icy and just overall gross. I hope it cools down soon. Can't walk anywhere or do anything without slipping or having to walk through thick slush.

So our 89 degree day yesterday turns out to be the second hottest day ever recorded in San Antonio in December.

Welp 2024 is now officially the hottest year ever recorded in San Antonio, beating out the record we set in 2023. What's wild is we only had a very above average summer this year instead of the boat raced every previous summer record breaking summer we had in 2023, so a lot of this comes from a ridiculously hot fall and winter.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON SUNDAY TO 6 AM EST
TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow
accumulations between 3 and 10 inches and ice accumulations of up
to half of an inch.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast, northern, and southeast West
Virginia.

* WHEN...From noon Sunday to 6 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice.
Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
Man I hope we don't get the ice or a wet snow. We went through that crap during hurricane Sandy and the heavy wet snow damaged every tree and took out all our utilities.

I've been in the forest after an ice storm, weirdest sounds ever. You can hear all the smaller tree branches and the ice on them cracking simultaneously throughout all the forest, with the occasional loud pop and bang from bigger branches, in full surround sound.

-14C feels like -19 here. More or less into seasonal temps now.

^^ Around here it's just rednecks plinking whatever they see.

Late yesterday, I had icicles hanging everywhere and power was flicking off and on. It stayed around 33-34 just long enough for all of them to be gone and the power to stabilize. I won't know until daylight how much ice is still on the trees, but now in the 20s for the week, we may still have trouble.

Snowing sideways and cold AF. Everything's iced over and it's not projected to get above freezing for 3 days.

Our power flickered on and off three or four times. Stable now… 🤞
