The last few mornings have been bright, sunny and warm...then around noon, the marine layer moves in and it cools right off. Currently about 65F, 88% humidity, and overcast. Last night, the fog moved in and visibility was less than 1/2 mile...temps in the mid-50s. I like it.

In the midwest its not so much the heat as the smoke and haze (from the Canadian fires).

Nearing sunset
Yep, thats the sun.

Here on the space coast; down the street from Elmo's rocket ride, and Jeff's penis extension, we have been near or maybe even hitting records lately. Imma still hit the heavy bag in the backyard this afternoon. If I gork or RIP @VirtualLarry @blckgrffn @Pohemi @igor_kavinski can divvy up my stuff.

Thankfully I live in that tiny little sliver of socal that still gets the pacific ocean cooling effect. Those of us in the area see the first big mountain range inland and know the temperatures jump 20F just by going over them. 80F on the coast = 100F+ just 20 minutes away by car.

We just came off the greenest season I can ever remember out here and the brush is all dry now so I'm expecting a pretty bad fire season. Especially if these heatwaves are starting a month early.

108F at the moment. Had to kick the cats off the screen porch as they are too dumb to come in on their own. The neighbor's outdoor cat hangs out in our yard. We let her in to cool down as the neighbors are ignorant assholes who don't think animals are affected by the heat.

Hot as all FUCK in Texas. Jesus Christ.
Eighth straight day of 104+ in my part of San Antonio, with tomorrow forecast for 105 and Wednesday's forecast being 104. Then we're set to cool down to 103 on Thursday through Saturday before a cool front comes in and drops us to 101 on Sunday. A fucking cool front to get us to 101. I wanted to chuck my remote through the TV when I heard the weatherman on the KSAT 5:00 news say that.

Also our normal temp this time of year here is 95 and we average 18 days a year of 100+. Ugh South Texas has heated up so much the last 15 years and I guess this is the new normal having weeks of 100s wall to wall.

Cats seem to love the heat so much that I wonder if they would even let themselves burn and actually enjoy it lol.

My FIL who lives in southern AZ says it's the hottest summer since he's moved there 30 years ago.

Ugh last year was the worst summer I had seen in 35+ years in San Antonio, TX. And even then we only had like 3 days excessive heat warnings (eg when heat index is above 115), which was a record until this June. This summer we have had something around eight to ten days of excessive heat warnings and the usual hottest part of the year is still two weeks away. We're almost certain to have three of the six hottest years recorded in the last four years here and if August is like July has been (and is forecast to be) then we could have the single hottest year recorded here again for the second year in a row. I have never seen the kind of heat and humidity we had here for a two week stretch in June where San Antonio officially set our all-time heat index ever recorded three times in a span of four days and where my neighborhood got up to 125 heat index one day. I have never seen 8 straight days of 104+ like we are currently in. Not in the horrible summers of 2009, the megadrought of 2011, or the even more megadrought hottest summer ever recorded here last year. This year the hot temperatures started a lot later than last year (early June this year vs early May last year) but last year we were saved by an actual cool August and not too bad September, which isn't something you can't reasonably expect in San Antonio where August is far and away the hottest month of the year usually. If August is anything like this July has been it might come down to a photo finish between 2022 and 2023 for who has more days of 100+ here (2022 was short of the record set in 2009 by one day, but was quite a bit hotter by most other metrics). I think a lot of us are getting a boot in the ass from global warming right now.

my cat was an indoor/outdoor cat. She refused to go inside where there was AC in the summer. Instead, I would find her outside and in the heat of the day (30+C and nearly 40C with the humidity) hiding under the hydrangea bush in the backyard. I swear it must have been at least 10C cooler under there. Smart cat.

I live in NJ. Smoke is pouring in from Canada.

And so, its very hot, and the sun is blocked because of the smoke.

It hasn’t been that bad here. Up through the end of May, the weather was pretty nice. The first 100F day was later than it’s been in ten-fifteen years and the spikes aren’t too bad. What is different is the consistent days in the 105-110F range and a very late monsoon start. San Juan’s Day, June 24th, is the traditional start date for the monsoon. Last year, the first wide spread monsoon storms arrived on June 23th. This year, the storms have been much more isolated and lower intensity with many areas getting no rain at all. So the monsoon is almost a month behind.

The monsoon moisture derives from the Gulf of Mexico and is much more consistent over Mexico while Arizona catches the fringes so little variations in the monsoon have huge impacts in Arizona’s rainfall. If things continue as they are, Arizona is right back into severe drought.

We have been getting thunderstorms everyday which cools things down a lot. Having one at the moment. Nothing to be done for the humidity, but that's Florida this time of year.

Our average temperature for July in my backyard so far is 86.4F (30.2C) with an average humidity of 80.6%. High temperature was 101.9F (38.8C). Low was 74.4F (23.6C)

JFC this forecast after we have already had 9 days in a row of 104+

And last month we had the Mexican agricultural fires screwing up our air quality during that heat wave. Now we have Saharan dust in this one. Having your sinuses plugged up just makes the days of 104 even crappier.
