Just completed a 3-day juice-fast!

In the past 3 days I have eaten a hotdog at the ball game, went out for steak dinner with all the fixings, and had a huge brunch today. I think I need to go through some clensing

Placebo effect+gullible consumers FTW 😉

EDIT: there's not a shred of actual proof that a fast does you any good at all, your body is designed to work best WITH food after all...

Placebo effect FTW.

Of course your body is designed to work best with foods, I'm not saying this is a long term solution. However, the average American eats extremely bad foods, filled with hormones, pestisides etc. That's why a cleanse is a good idea every now and then. Have you done any research on the subject?

A little more time and I should be able to find some better stuff for you.

Don't bother, that article is utter crap. Half of the "references" in that article have no concrete data or reliable references themselves. The other half are from "healthy.net" which is just chalk full of bullsh1t "alternative medicine" hocus pocus (not to discredit ALL alternative medicine).

You claim to have done research but also mentioned you had no idea how to find scientific journals related to this topic. You pretty much instantly discredited anything further you had to say in this entire thread. Proquest, Medline... hell, ask a college kid to log into their student account and do a journal search for you since they (or at least I do at WSU) have free access to HUGE journal databases.

Kellogg's Bran Buds work well for a fiber source (almost half the recommended intake just in one bowl)
I drop a motherload at least 2 times a day 😉

I have been rendered speechless.

I think that's a fair statement. On the one hand I've said I did a fair amount of research but on the other hand I've said I don't know much about the topic. I'll explain. I've read about the benefits of juice fasting from several sources. However, I don't know enough to answer every question on the subject or specifics. I can tell you that I did it and I feel great afterwards. Honestly, you aren't going to find much in medical journals about any disease prevention technique, as doctor's don't spend that much time on it. So, I found a ton of information backing up the same claims, and while some of it was written by medical doctors, no, they weren't from medical journals. I've heard a lot about this, and I'd be interested to hear from medical doctor's on the forum about how much time they spent in medical school learning about disease prevention.

If you're not interested in this then that's fine.

My poo is bright white. Is this bad? I have been fasting on Pina Coladas for 3 days because Colada sounds a lot like Colon, so I figured they must be good for you

I'm sorry I'm going to have to call you on that one. I'm in nursing school and we spend massive amounts of time on preventive health care, and so do Doctors, especially when they are in school. I work in a teaching hospital, I should know. But here is the deal, you can teach a patient about preventative medicine but it doesnt necessarily mean they'll practice it.

We have a skewered idea of what doctors do because we're used to seeing TV shows where they treat diseases, and yes doctors treat disease, but they also teach to prevent disease.

Also most people wait til a disease begins to manifest before seeing a doctor. Hence they then have to treat.

Think of it this way.

Primary Care-Your family doctor, focused on prevention and keeping your current state of health. A big focus on health promotion/prevention. If you have a disease they'll offer modalities to treat it and/or prevent it from flaring up. Or they referr you to secondary/tertiary care doctor
Secondary Care- Hospital care/clinic care. Usually for treating acute problems/disease/illness.
Tertiary Care- Specialized medicine and nursing. Neurotrauma, burn center, etc, often are consulted by primary or secondary care.

Please get your facts straight before you post.

Agreed.

As soon as people start talking about magical crap that "absorbs toxins", I know they're full of it.

I dont think i'd want to sh1t 3 times a day...what a waste of time, once in the morning is good enough for me...S..Shower and shave

The amount of toilet paper used after this operation would likely destroy the environment.

Harvard Medical school says:
Frequency. In Western societies, people generally defecate two or three times a day, but it?s an individual matter. All the advice about the importance of regular bowel movements notwithstanding, some people defecate just once a week and are perfectly healthy. Constipation isn?t defined by the frequency of bowel movements, but by whether someone has difficulty when they have one.

Sounds like your "research" is akin to the infomercials you were watching. The links you provide are more of the same as well. How do you feel about Kevin Trudeau and coral calcium?

Care to explain further?

You could have achieved exactly the same bowel movement thing by inculding more fibre in your normal diet.

As far as i'm aware there's not a shred of medical, peer reviewed proof that fasting does anything beneficial for you at all...

NO i couldn't have. I know that because the previous few weeks I was having more than enough fiber per day and wasn't having the same results.

Oh, and there are a whole bunch of articles on the benefits of fasting. I know there are plenty of books on the subject written by medical doctors, but I wouldn't know how to search through medical journals.

you can find one or two quack doctors trying to sell anything. find the peer reviewed studies published in established journals. otherwise you are probably basically wasting money on nothing. theres no conspiracy trying to keep fasting suppressed in the major media or something.... its fringe because its unsupported unscientific nonsense.

Could you enlighten me why not? What's not healthy is shitting once a day or sometimes not at all. Most Americans have 8 meals backed up in their colon. I've already done the research so I know it's healthy.

I just typed in google "bowel movements per day" and this is the first site that came up.
http://www.bytheplanet.com/WhatAilsYou/Constipation/bowelmovements.htm

First sentence (a doctor responding to a question)...
"It is unlikely that a doctor has taught you how to achieve optimal elimination, 2 to 3 bowel movements per day."

See, it kinda depends how offten you sh!t and what kinda sh!t it is.

I used to sh!t once a day after high school. My parents are nutrition freaks, and I would have at least 2 fruits a day in addition to a buttload of multivitamins and definitely a filling 3 meals a day.

The sh!t was easy. I don't get how some people take 20 min to do it, but it would all come out within 3 minutes. It would come out as a long big piece of crap, but a huge piece of crap, and right after that ginormous piece comes out, you already feel felieved. Maybe one or two small pieces come out, but yea bottom line is that you have that ginormous piece of crap that comes out.

Definitely I don't have the same experience in college. It's not once a day, and if it is, it isnt a regular time, and it's never as relieving as my old sh!ts. I try to eat balanced although I'm not the most healthy. I still have multivitamins, but obviously I'm not eating the same as I used to eat =/

Back in high school, I would poo maybe 2 to 3 times a week and was just fine. Now I poo about once per day. Sometimes I skip weekends. I poo whenever I feel like it. That fasting sounds quite neat though. I might have to try that. I wouldn't get a $200 juicer or anything, but maybe something cheap from Walmart will work just as well. Heck, I'm going to try that out right away! Thanks for the info!

I'm seriously interested in trying this out. I have a Magic Bullet, and I think I'll just go buy lots of fruits.

I honestly don't know what to make though because I usually just eat the fruits plain without creating any drink.

I was told to avoid citruses for the fast, meaning oranges that I love are out of the question.

I really don't know what to do when it comes to vegetables. I mostly eat asian vegetables, and that becomes a little hard to mash up in my magic bullet (at least I don't know what to make)
