There's no good reason to have a windchime. It's an interesting sound for about 10 seconds and then it's only annoying thereafter.

There is a very good reason for them! They ward off evil spirits. And the only spirits in my house are vodka, tequila, and wine! None of which are evil. Clearly, the chime as worked.

I think it depends on the windchimes. Some have a pretty pleasing tone. Cheap ones usually are annoying though. Though, if I lived like ants and was right next to my neighbor, I wouldn't presume they liked the sound.

What is it about the current generation of 'youts ' and noise? I mean seriously, everyone 's got to have a silent pc so they can wear headphones and crank it to eleven. Maybe it's the horrid reminder that the real world is a dirty noisy place?

Spray it with some of that aerosol glue, attach a couple of WD-40 red plastic dispensers together for proper range, in no time he will have a swinging clump of metal, problem=solved!..

So lets make it noisier by hanging chunks of metal in the wind so they bump into each other. Later, when it is rusty and old we can throw the stupid thing away and make the world dirtier, too. Win! :)

Keep on keeping on with that fantasy world where everything is clean, silent and, preferably controlled by computer. Never mind your children's children will be dead and buried before that comes to pass.

I hope your landlord came over, shoved a wind chime up your ass and then curb stomped you.

I have two of them hanging off my patio cover. I love the sound of them clanging on a windy night.

What a silly thing to complain about.

You would be pissed where I live, there's always construction going on and you can hear the heavy equipment pretty much all summer. Backhoes, jack hammers, pile drivers, bulldozers (those make a lot of noise on pavement). And the beeps of them backing up etc.

Though my server room makes a lot of white noise too so maybe that helps me cope with it. I'll find out once I put up the drywall and insulation. Noise has never really bothered me.

TBH the only noise that actually does bother me is the sound of snoring. It is the most annoying sound ever if you're trying to sleep in the same room as someone who snores.

dogs barking 24/7

This is why I'm planning on moving to a couple of acres out of town as soon as its feasible. Hate damned noisy-assed dogs (as i listen to the neighbors glorified rats bark ten feet from my window).

What do you host? I was thinking of just getting one old Dell server for Untangle firewall.

It's mostly for stuff around the house, a bit overkill but it's fun. Firewall, file server, VM server, environmental control/monitoring server etc... Dev/test environments for various projects, and so on.

I had used a Dell server at one point for pfsense. You can sometimes find the 1U ones for pretty cheap. Try to get something that uses SATA drives though. The old stuff often uses SCSI, which is completely useless to the average person if the drive in it fails. A new drive will cost more than what the whole server is worth.

Well, congrats on one thing, OP. You've made the landlord's list of "Tenants who complain about anything/everything." :)

In simpler days they were used to tell of coming inclement weather, like if you were inside milking your cows or diddling your sheep.

lol jeez, windchimes are actually pretty relaxing...have a lot of babies in here.

Noises to get annoyed about in an apartment:
Loud thumping music
People above you that walk on their heels
People having loud arguments
People that feel the need to drive through the parking lot with their radio on max

Windchimes? nah. Just grow a pair and tune them out instead of sitting inside with your cat and getting needlessly mad.

Same here.

Another thing is when they can reach their owners trash bags sitting on the other side of the fence and spill trash all down the alley.

You're a fucking moron. This is about me not being able to sleep at night because it's hot as hell and if I open a window it's *ring ring ring* all night long because some idiot hung a toy under my bedroom window.

Ringing-bell-toys that people hang outside which make noise all night in an apartment complex (close proximity living situation)

Fixed that for ya smart guy.
