Just cleared a clogged toilet with...

...boiling water! Plumber's and their fees be damned! (Until I really need them again.)

Kudos to the idiot in my household that blocked it up and left it for me to find at 7am when I got up for work.

I always heard that was dangerous for pipes.

I will say that a plumber's snake is one of the better purchases I've ever made, as miserable as it is to clean it.

Don't toilets have a wax seal where they connect to the floor? Wouldn't boiling water have a tendency to melt wax?

Boiling water is ok as long as you let it sit for 30 mins or so before flushing. What works for me every time is hot water, some dawn dish soap and baking soda, let that combo sit for a few hours and the waste will be dissolved enough to flush away.

Plummer snake for unclogging a toilet? D: D: Aren't they just for drains?

it's designed for toilets:

unless we're talking about 2 different things.

Ok I wasn't thinking of a type with a long handle like that. The one we have just has a short piece of metal bar, 8in across, to place the torque on the snake. Nothing else.

I find a plain 'ol plunger usually does the trick for me. I have never clogged a toilet beyond a plunger's abilities. Sometimes I may need to add a bit of chemicals like Javex but normally the plunger does the job, especially for 100% clogs.

This is my experience. We have a toilet at home that is low flush and I'm always clogging it, needs to be just a little less low flush. Never had it so bad a plunger didn't do the trick.

I'm looking at the time of the OP, and the time in the OP, and wondering WTH?
I had a full day of work and went to work with it still clogged. Asked them to unclog it and by the time I got home it was still clogged. They did nothing. Called my buddy who is a plumber, he mentioned some boiling water, and I tried that. Had to leave it sit for a while before it worked. Then I deep cleaned the bathroom. Then I posted.

Pressure toilets are a thing of gods. I couldn't imagine having to use a plunger. Why would you plunge a toilet when you could just not have it get stuck to begin with.
