Hey! no fair!

I didn't know there was a copy protection scheme on there. so long as autoplay was enabled and their program ran (which it all was and did the first time I put it in), it autmoatically and silently installs the driver, even before you "accept" their agreement. I never accepted the agreement, but had to go and get rid of the crap anyway.

i edited the OP to include some other things from the FAQ

i love this
What are the benefits to having Digital Keys installed on my computer?:
1. Each time you place the CD in your computer, your music will automatically begin to play.
2. You can easily move your music onto your computer without the cumbersome process of ripping.
3. You can place your music onto your approved portable digital music player.

so what they're trying to say is that ripping music is more of a cluster fvck than their hoop jumping process?

The problem, atleast with the foo fighters CD, is that the invisible driver they install (visible in device manager when active, and easier to find when viewing devices by connection) is it disrupts your ROM's ability to read that particular CD, so even using paranoid modes with CDex and EAC won't work...it'll just take longer to get clipping/scratching sounding songs.

I haven't bought a CD in a while, and anyone that purchases one now is absolutely stupid. Not only are you supporting those bastards from the RIAA and helping them remove your fair use rights, but you're wasting your own time and resources having to jump through hoops when there are plenty of alternative ways available to get the CD quickly and hassle (and DRM) free.

It appears that that album uses a SunnComm protection scheme.

Maybe check this page, 1/3 the way down the page for some instructions on a work around.

I dunno how the protection scheme on your cd works, but on the foo fighters cd it didn't affect existing drivers, it installed an entirely new/different driver....if you google search for it you'll find some info as I can't remember what it was called.

holding shift won't do anything now since the "evil" driver has already been installed. Once you remove it using that linked page and disable autoplay (or autorun, whichever it is), or hold shift to temporarily disable it, you can do whatever you want with the CD.

Just disable WinXP's autorun completely. I haven't had a problem ripping cds since.

and while we're on the subject

what do you rip your stuff at?

MP3, windows media audio, windows media audio(variable bit rate), or windows media audio lossless?
