For the love of all that's holy and pure in this universe just return that ... thing back from the hell whole it came from. Not only do you not need that much power, but, as someone else previously said, there's probably going to be better and cheaper stuff in a couple of months.

My brother just bought a 88 mustang gt with a bored over engine, edelbrock intake, cam, headers, racing clutch and transmission for $2200. Thing runs like a champ pushing 400hp. I think I'd rather have that.

Sub-12 second timeslip or dyno output pics or it didn't happen. Getting a sub 200 horsepower engine to 400 hp is not as easy as just doing a bit of work at the top end and adding a few cubic inches. Hell, my supercharged 5.0 is nowhere near 400 hp, and that's with aluminum heads, gt-40 intake, underdrive pulleys, blah blah. You'd have to rebuild the entire thing with a marine block and a bottom end targeted to over 8000 rpm to make that kind of power naturally aspirated out of a 5.0.

Lots of fun for $2200 even if it's "only" cranking out low 200s for HP though. Those fox bodied mustangs were not much heavier than a Miata and very easy to work on.

I thought the 5.0 put out mid 200's stock? Mechanic friend of my brother said it was about 350 hp and it's a race car that's street legal. It has two racing seats and a dash with a tach. That's all the interior. It also has only a 5 gal fuel cell. It's got to be light as hell and when he took me for a ride I thought it was fast as hell. And this is coming from a guy (me) that owns a 9 sec crotch rocket.

Do you own a foxbody mustang? pics if you do.

1986 was the first of the "HO" 5 liters rated over 200 hp. Though the rating was for 225, that was from cherry picked engine(s), IIRC. There was a lot of variance, typically towards 200 hp and slightly under. You could get one that just tore up the pavement, but typically didn't. Mine ran a 15 second quarter mile off the showroom floor at what I consider completely stock (K&N filter, underdrive pulleys, headers), while other brand new GT were turning a more typical 15.5-15.7. This is at a mile of altitude, so not quite as horrible as it sounds.

I have a SN-95 (though I've wrenched on every Ford V8 since the 260). Mine is about 600 pounds heavier in return for not flexing like a wet noodle, having 5 bolt wheels and brakes good enough not to need the "For Mustang Use Only" emergency stop lane at the drag strip. That, and I can actually turn as well as go in a straight line!

Anyhoo, 300 is eminently practical out of a naturally aspirated 5 liter. With matched, good quality bolt ons and a bit of tweaking by a mechanic who knows what he or she is doing. 400hp is a $10,000+ build-up by a pro. Think of as a 4 ghz overclock on a 920 as opposed to a 5 ghz. The first is possible and common, the second is going to be very rare and unlikely for everyday use.

Just curious, is that some sort of new desktop sitter? Or is it just another ghost for ukagaka/nanika? Not a huge kagamin fan, but that looks sweet :)

LOLOL...

You making fun of my kagami load meter?
Its a Gagdet under windows called VistaFace.

I also have one of Miku + Konata + a few other anime characters whom i tend to name my system after. :p

But her face changes as i put load on the cpu...

LOL here's my Miku under load:
ohnoes.jpg

I decided to use these load meters as my sig... instead of spaming my name in the corner.
I havent seen 1 person yet pull a anime load meter as a sig.

oh yeah actually I had that a while back before I reinstalled windows and forgot about it altogether.

No, not making fun of it at all. I would go with konata myself :)

Problem is 100% load is not 100% load. Too bad VRMs don't have an ammeter function!

Oh and OP welcome to the club. At least you didn't buy X5680s. Those are expensive but 4.66GHz 1.325V 1.305VTT on AIR is worth it. ;)

I think a 1090T + a Crosshair IV and possible 2-4 5870's would have been a better path at the moment.
no it wouldnt. Thuban cant even fully push 5870 crossfire so 3 or 4 of them would be laughably bottlenecked compared to having an i5/i7 quad.

are you referring to the Mustangs in the late 80s to earlier 90s? if so a Miata weighs several hundred pounds less than even an LX 5.0.

Nothing new. :p

I don't think we are progressing that fast anymore. An entry level processor these days is a dual core variant of a Core Processor or AMD X2. Rougly 5 Years ago, Core 2 Duo was introduced.

It's not a humongous jump in performance.

Well sure if you're just using the computer for everyday tasks. If you're encoding/rendering it most certainly IS a HUGE jump and worth every penny.

You think so? A Core i3 vs a Core 2 Duo. I would actually like to see this comparison.

I'm comparing going from W3520 to X5680 (similar to 920 to 980X).
Both systems side by side surfing, etc. - no difference obviously. Heck the quad will be better in some games/apps just due to better memory performance and lower cache latency.

Use SMP aware rendering/encoding and it's game over for the quad. That's what I'm saying here. :)

The original question was high end today vs low end tomorrow.

High end was Core 2 Duo, Low end is Core i3.

Irrelevant to me (and most enthusiast I'm sure!) as we push to have the highest performance where cost is of secondary concern. ;)

Here you again with the same tired song over and over again, aren't you tired of posting the same stuff, derailing the thread, when most people here already proved you wrong thousands of time in terms of CPU bottlenecking.

Read here: http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=13454&all=1

And learn from the real pro's in terms of hardware review instead of pure speculation and FUD.

The first article you linked just shows that a GPU is more important than CPU in modern games (i.e., when using a fairly modern CPU). That is obvious, but has nothing to do with what toyota is saying: which is for multiple graphics card, you really need the fastest processors.

There have been many articles which prove that Phenom II X4 is not competitive with Core i7 when it comes to providing sufficient power for a dual-card setup (esp. when it comes to minimum framerates):

Review 1:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/radeon-hd5870-cpu-scaling_4.html#sect0

Review 2:
http://www.legionhardware.com/artic...ossfire_cpu_scaling_performance_part_2,5.html

Review 3:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-890fx,2613-9.html

"Lo and behold, even with the fastest single-GPU card you can buy, the Phenom II X6 doesn’t spring to life. Meanwhile, the overclocked Core i7 leaps forward by quite a bit. The conclusion we’re going to draw early on is that a six-core CPU running at a lower clock rate—Turbo CORE or not—is probably not the way to go for gamers."

So...no professional reviewers with years of published results have proven that Phenom II is just as good. In fact, it has been proven that it is not optimal for gamers. I am not going to link countless PCgameshardware articles either.

There is a clear distinction between: (1) GPU is more important in games than a modern CPU vs. (2) Games scale with faster CPU speed. No one is disputing #1. However, #2 is also true and just about every new game that comes out nowdays shows that CPU speed matters. Yet, it seems every week someone tries to dispute this.

Splinter Cell: Conviction CPU scaling http://www.gamespot.com/features/6261472/p-5.html
Core i7 930 is 38% faster than Q9650 at 1920x1080 4AA/8AF with maximum in game visuals.

And yet who plays at 1280x1024 anymore? Let alone 1680x1050? I looked all all of the results that show 1920x1200, most of the benchmarks are similar. The only one where the Thuban gets truly smoked is in Left 4 Dead 2.

You are totally right, even if the performance gap is wide, it isn't enough to make a difference in playability.
