Don't be stupid, us in IT are required by law to have an intimate understanding of the inner workings, the setup and maintenance of, and the skills to repair every single device that utilizes power, either by electrical cable or battery.
This is true. Let me add to that list.
Projectors
Audio\Visual equipment
VCRs
Phones
Teleconferencing
DVD Players
And anything at home that has electric running through it.
Well, I wouldn't expect knowledge of such appliances to be part of an IT guy's job description. However, because of their knowledge of computers, I would expect them to have a higher then average knowledge of electronics in general.
Because of this, I would go to an IT guy for personal help with an electronic issue instead of any other worker and hope that he would be friendly and possibly help me out. Kind of like going to ATOT for help instead of a weightlifting messageboard.
Or I'd threaten him...
