ti 4200 is an epic card

it runs alot of stuff including today's company of heroes

back in its heyday (2002,2003,2004) I remember running (all with very good results ie almost max settings or better)

This was my golden area of gaming. Today's stuff just doesnt live up to it, battlefield 1942 online is the greatest fun I have ever had with a game, nothing yet has compared.
 
I thought the ending was okay, quite funny in some respects.

Weird.. I didnt think it would run COD 2 but with lower res (1024 x 768) and smoke down it does! interesting.

Jedi Knight 2 and the stand-alone sequel are both pretty good and play well on the Ti4200 (it's the card I have right now). If you're into it, WoW plays pretty well on the card as well (although I never got far enough in the game to do 40 man raids to see how it handles big boss battles).

My Ti4200 has been amazing. Going on 5 years of use now, although I can't play a lot of newer games like BF2 that require newer cards. I'll probably upgrade it soon, even though I don't play a lot of games anymore. I'd like to give Oblivion a try and will definitely need a better card for that. When I upgrade, it'll be a whole-system upgrade since I'll have to move to a PCI-E card. I'll probably go with a Dx10 card just to be "future proof" - it'd be nice if I can get another card that lasts me as long as this Ti4200 has.
 
I don't know if there will ever be another card with as much staying power as the GF4ti parts. I upgraded my ti4600 after I beat HL2. It held its own in that game though, I didn't need to upgrade.

Even Oblivion, I believe there's an "Oldblivion" mod that forces it to run dx8.1. Not sure what the performance is though.
 
had a ti 4200 myself as well for a long time.

my one friend at work has it in his home system right now since his old one went bad.

9800 pro is an almost timeless beast too, plus it supports DX9 - even now they go for between 50 and 100 bucks.

Despite it being a slower part, I could argue the Radeon 8500 had more "staying" power simply because it can run games such as BF2 whereas the GF4 Ti cards simply cannot.

Actually, both cards staying power could be attributed to the collosal fvckup that was the FX series. Ati 9800pro became the only high end card on the market worth having for an entire generation and the GF4ti was certainly no worse then most of the FX series. It lacked dx9, but its not like you could really use it on the FX cards anyway.

Do either of those cards provide playable framerates in that game? Its possible to 'play' lots of games with a FX5200, but that doesn't mean you can actually play it.

One things for sure, we haven't been seeing parts with that kind lasting power lately.

If only it had been easier to replace the HS on the 8500, and had not so many of them shipped with 64 megs of vram, I could more whole-heartedly agree. It sucked once the fan on my 8500 died out of warranty... I took the fan out and it became a 2D card only...

I had a 4200 for 3 years, played a lot of GW and CSS in its later days. I think the most demanding game i played through on it fully was Doom 3, which ran well on lower settings and still looked decent enough to stand it.

aftr I beat the pretty easy boss, we go back to the headquarters, they talk about what a great job I did but how they can't give me a medal since the mission never existed.. blah blah.

and he is on a vacation, to kick some more ass -_-;

the game itself was not too bad.

Now That I know COD2 runs damn well with it, I'll be that next.

I thought the ending was kind of lame because it was like very other game...there's an ultimate super evil that if released would be unstoppable, and you spend the whole game trying to stop it from being released. At the end of the game, despite all your efforts the super unstoppable evil was released anyway and you...um...stop it.
