If you're overqualified why are u applying? I work for geeksquad, as far as people and how much they actually know about computers, some people are overqualified and some people shouldnt be working there. Overall I find it to be a decent job to hold down while going to school, (if you work 32 or more hours a week you get 3500 a year for school(32 hours is considered fulltime) which is nice. Mostly what you do is remove peoples dumb searchbars/spyware whatever u want call it, reinstall Windows, general hardware work (replacing parts). Anyways people who work in bestbuy stores get paid 11-15 dollars an hour generally, if you go out to people's houses it's a decent amount more than that. I like the job for the most part, the job can be a pain sometimes when you have to deal with crabby customers(some legitimatly angry, some are just being unreasonable). However for every crabby customer I've gotten there's always a really nice one. No certifications are required if your an instore tech, your supposed to have A+ and MCSE for going out to peoples houses, but they generally don't seem to follow that.

Oh yeah the uniforms suck, but life goes on I guess.

Anyways I don't know where you are looking to go jobwise in life, I'm 18 right now and it's better than most other jobs available to me while i goto school.

not from where I am sitting. I see new jobs open up everyday, everything from right out of college to senior positions to management. I think the biggest problem these days with college graduates is that they are told they will graduate and make X amount of money. If you are willing to work hard, you will climb your way up the ladder. Right out of college I was working as a desktop tech fro $12/hr. I did that for a year and a half. now 3 years since graduating, I am making ~$50,000/yr. That may not seem like very much to some people, but I am filling my 401K and savings account while living a comfortable lifestyle.

See, I have no problem with doing that - Entry level helpdesk type positions are the majority of what I've sent resumes to. No dice all the same. Just sent out 3 more the other day, and I'm waiting to hear on a fourth one I sent a couple weeks ago to the same school I graduated from.

Well, best case scenario would be you get the job and kick ass for a while, using your expertise to truly be head & shoulders over your counterparts. Maybe then you could end up in some type of supervisory role in which you get to sit behind a desk and nef, ordering all of your little squad out into the field. Doesn't sound that bad, if it were to all work out that way. Then you could nef from work, like me.

edit: oh, and you gotta make money somewhere. whether it's Geek Squad or McDonald's, the main thing is that your bills are getting paid and you're not sitting at home on your rump.

good luck in the interview. if i were you, i wouldn't hold a damn thing back.

Not sure what the economy is in your area, but here in Central Florida we have five open IT positions and we can't find anyone to take them, people aren't even showing up for interviews. I'm still in college and a part time Network Engineer/Intern and I make close to $40k a year.

Seriously.. I'm in South FL, part-time, going to school.. don't make nearly as much as you Dan. And I'm doing tech/helpdesk.. even though it's been more helpdesk than tech lately.

$10.50 an hour? I might just go put in a application for Geek Squad now. Its almost impossible to find a decent pay job here. Everything is like $5.15 to $6 an hour. I know people out of college working at fast food places and bagging groceries.
