Is Geeksquad even a viable business model in the age of $400 Dell computers?

You'll have to let us know how they pay, I was wondering if they're all sub contractors or employees of Best Buy also?

Do they get paid per job or just a flat 40 hr a week like a normal job?

yeah, because dell won't help you clean up virii and malware, i'm pretty sure

also most people that get $400 dells get the basic warranty package which doesn't cover much IIRC

Would never, ever want to be bothered with that job.

People in their homes, replace the OS and 6 months later the power supply dies and they ask you what you did.

Nope.

I'd rather beg for change.

I'm in the same boat. Just got out of college with a Bachelor's degree, but I have yet to find a "real" job, so I've started putting in applications at a bunch of local retail places :(

I should look into this too. I fvcking hate troubleshooting, and I'm sure that's what 90% of it is gonna be for pure morons, but I hear they make decent pay.

Meh. I find that most "tech savy" people who claim to be tech savy are idiots. The people who don't show it off, generally are more attuned to the tech world.

Correction: The people who actively downplay the fact they know what they're doing because they know that as soon as they open their mouths hordes of computer-illiterate "relatives," "friends," "co-workers," etc will come pounding on their front doors at all hours of the night.

not from where I am sitting. I see new jobs open up everyday, everything from right out of college to senior positions to management. I think the biggest problem these days with college graduates is that they are told they will graduate and make X amount of money. If you are willing to work hard, you will climb your way up the ladder. Right out of college I was working as a desktop tech fro $12/hr. I did that for a year and a half. now 3 years since graduating, I am making ~$50,000/yr. That may not seem like very much to some people, but I am filling my 401K and savings account while living a comfortable lifestyle.

edit: I have a friend that graduated at the same time I did, with the same degree. Currently he is working for a cabinet shop because he is still holding out for that $40K/yr Network Admin job. I tried helping him, and still send him job openings that he would fit about 2 times a week, but they are not good enough for him. The kicker: he's making $12/hr in the cabinet shop.

I worked for Geek Squad, got $10.50/hr. No certs, just previous tech experience.

They really pound you on selling PSPs and 'inhome services'...
