Cool, I was actually thinking about this the other day, figured we'd be hearing more soon.

Can't wait to see some of the close up pics, and hear of any new discoveries that may be made. I was thinking it would be neat if they had some kind of smaller ship that could try to do a "landing" and send data during that time, basically see how far it gets before it dies. It's actually kind of mind boggling to think that it's all gas, all the way through. Well, near the core I imagine the pressures are so high that it's probably liquid.

I guess you never saw 2010 The Year We Make Contact. Under rated movie.

I did not even realize there was a sequel until rather recently. It indeed is underrated. Both of those movies were great.

I did. Just a few years ago, I think.

My memory is crap though. I remember that message from the movie. Don't remember the black blob on Jupiter.

Early photos released. Should get more detailed images soon.

This infrared image gives an unprecedented view of the southern aurora of Jupiter, as captured by NASA's Juno spacecraft on August 27, 2016.

Don't they understand the main reason for these spacecraft is high quality pictures for the public? I haven't seen much from Juno yet, hopefully more soon.

Haven't watched 2010 in a long time, looks like something I'll be doing this weekend :)

I liked the movie and have watched it several times (including this year), but they tossed out the Chinese element from the book. I shouldn't have read the book before the movie was made.

Anyway, love the infrared image. Just goes to show that humans are blind to most of the EM spectrum.

For those who didn't go looking, the 2 pictures I posted are the new images. First is the north pole, second is the south pole.

That is cool. The storms in the background are the same size as the moon. jeez. And that's from Voyager 1?
The storms are MUCH bigger than Io. The perspective doesn't show how great the distance is between Io and the planet behind it.

The view from Jupiter's south pole from the Juno spacecraft has just been released.
