Dave, whats your yearly salary? I know its rude to ask, but I'm curious how much state tax you even pay. If any

I hate that argument, seriously. As if it's natural for everyone who actually earns a living to be rabidly opposed to taxes and the only people who support them are the ones who don't pay any.

I can't speak for Dave, but I make a decent amount of money, and as a single guy living in Maryland, I pay a TON of taxes. High federal taxes to support various programs I doubt I directly benefit from. High property taxes to help support schools when I don't have any kids. And high state income taxes to support even more programs I could probably do without.

Yet somehow I haven't been won over to the side of constantly whining about taxes, because in my view a lot of them pay for things I think need paying for, even if I don't directly benefit. If you don't like taxes, you're certainly entitled to that view. But let's cut the crap about taxes only being supported by people who don't pay any. It's a really tempting idea because it makes your argument oh so much easier, but I'm not sure it's accurate.

Despite the contrary to what the jealous America hating nuts on here say I work and pay a ton of taxes. I don't have an offshore account like I'm sure they have and they are the ones that don't pay taxes as they have long bragged about that on here.

They truly hate this country yet for some reason stick around. They apparently haven't poisoned it enough yet to be unpalatable for themselves but they are working on it.

It seems to me there are two main types for the anti-tax ideology:

The very rich who fund propaganda campaigns for selling the public on an ideology that serves the rich, and a lot of poor people who are quite ignorant who fall for it.

These poor ignorant people tend to create societies filled with poverty for most exploited by a few rich, but to be perfectly content doing so.

They're like an army out to prove the founding fathers' idealism about citizens wrong.

Indeed, they're like they're out to question the very 'age of enlightenment', when the irrational dark ages of serfdom gave way to rationality and self-government.

We have much evidence that this group of people is utterly incapable of any such thing, and instead can only hope for benevolent rather than greedy overlords.

In this age of sophisticated marketing and propaganda, it's created an army of zombies who spout the well-hones, focus-group tested phrases they're fed.

The propagandization of our weaker citizens is a major issue in our society.

And you could donate however much you you like to government if you feel so compelled to help out. How much do you contribute to charity each year? How about you cut that out and just donate to government instead?

Higher taxes supported by people paying them are likely due to irrational guilt and instead of donating they feel compelled to force others by law to do so. It's the very foundation of a liberal. Do as I say, not as I do and force by rule of law to do as I say.

So many just don't get it.

It's not the taxation, it's the waste. It's compounded because our reps find it far, far easier to raise taxes than to control spending and make cuts when required.

It turns taxpayers into enablers. When you combine it with the mindset that the government is the answer to every problem both real and imagined (and they excel at creating imagined problems) and we end up where we're at right now. Broke.

actually his move may be more than smart, AFAIK Illinois is not as impacted as a lot of the sand states even on commercial property.

Florida has a HUGE surplus of beautiful commerical space CHEAP. No state taxes either.

One of the biggest challenges to businesses though as been hurricanes in the past few years...but that was not par for the course.

In the end, we really need to do something to stop the spending. There should be caps put in place that limit any officials gross income. That's really one of the only ways.

However; it doesn't stop the ever popular cash in a briefcase.

It's too bad Spidey, we evil socialists already released a genetic altering chemical into the USAs water supply based off of a dna sample from Lenin's left buttcheek back in the 1950s! (you capitalist-running-dog fools thought it was only fluoride! Mccarthy and Bill OReilly were right!)

We have already sapped your patriotic essence Spidey. Soros is on his way with the gay raygun to take care of you meddlesome conservative kids now.

Touched all their buttons, lol.

So now the states are in a race to the bottom with each other. Forget competition from other countries, now your neighboring state, city, etc is going to undercut you. This is just hilarious.

While this may be new to the northern states the southern states have been doing this for years.

How do you think they lured the automakers away from Detroit?

Look at Jackson Mississippi for example, they gave Nissan and Toyota huge incentives and tax breaks to build the plants there.

All of the southern states have auto plants now based on the same race to the bottom.

thank the UAW for that. Alot of the moves went to non-forced union states where they could get the cheaper labor

Or because they are Patriots and We The People have decided we like having a functional country instead of racing to the bottom.

I agree completely. The problem is we have 2 major parties in this country and both of the sonsofbitches do exactly what you just said. I never had much faith that we could have a viable 3rd party in this country due to the other 2 writing the rules but after seeing the Tea Party corrupted I have damn near none.

I also have zero faith that either party will stop using the tactics you described.

The tax breaks and incentives were due to competition with other southern states but that was just icing on the cake. The reason they built them in the south was to stay away from the absurdity of the UAW. I am sure the locals are trying to run them out of the state for paying slave wages though so its not like the northern states lost anything.
