Can't say this is too surprising. A corrupt judge is attracted to a corrupt firm like bees to honey. Not sure how this will end, though. Is his hiring part of the quid pro quo between him and Samsung or will Samsung, widely known for their corruption and ethical problems, get rid of him since his job is now done. There is, after all, no honor amongst these types. Either way, there should be an investigation.

As famous judges go, Sir Robin Jacob doesn't quite rank up there with some others we can think of (like that handsome fella on the left). But he is well known in legal circles, thanks largely to an important judgement he made against Apple last year. Sir Robin was among three British judges who forced Apple to apologize for accusing Samsung of stealing tablet designs, and he was especially heavily quoted in the press after he highlighted a "lack of integrity" in the way Apple had presented its case. Fast forward to now, however, and Sir Robin is in the limelight for a very different reason. He's quit the role of impartial arbiter in order to become an "expert" who is "working on behalf of" Samsung in a separate dispute with the ITC. We're certainly not accusing the guy of any wrongdoing, but it's interesting that the system allows people to switch between roles just like that. Lawyers, eh?

Locked by Moderators PM and TheStu for excessive trolling by multiple forum members

After fellow moderator TheStu and I consulted, we have decided to lock this thread. First, because we are both personally pretty thoroughly exhausted with the who-copied-who threads. Secondly because I can see several people trolling in this thread - one of whom took the rare step of publicly admiting that he was trolling (Zapp, in the future, please refrain from 'rattling the cages').

While I admit that there is probably a topic worth discussing with regards to the actions of the judge in this matter, we aren't actually discussing that subject at all as far as I can see and so rather than hand out warnings and infractions, I'm just going to lock it.

As always if you have positive/negative feedback for me about my actions, please send me a private message.

Is he going to go back to being a judge after his Samsung gig? If so I could see a problem, but I don't see any otherwise. They probably offered him more than he makes now.

Perhaps, if the price is right. He does, after all, have to be in a position of influence in order to reel in the next big catch.

Of course you would post something like this. When you have no ground to stand on, mock the accuser! It's very obvious where they got their design cues from. Samsung is shameless no doubt. Just like the people who claim they never copy.

So Apple shamelessly copied Google Wallet.

This response just shows how little you know about apple products. Google Wallet is nothing like passbook. Can't wait for your next uneducated response. Maybe it will be 'The design is SO OBVIOUS ITS NOT UNIQUE!'

I have a card holder that looks just like what apple has as an icon, they are so uncreative and are such copycats.

aaaaand just like clockwork they've arrived. Once someone copies Apple, it automatically goes into the 'SO OBVIOUS' pile.

A picture of a book shelf with books on it shouldn't be patentable. You can see the same thing at every book store in the world. Hell, you can probably see the same thing in your own home.
No. Most of the time people have books facing sideways, with the spline facing you.

The point is that Apple chose to essentially copy the UI of an existing product, right down to the front-facing-mixed-media-in-a-wood-bookshelf look. Yet, when Apple does it, it's OK, but when anyone else does it, they are evil.

It's not the first time Apple has done it either.

It's called sarcasm, no need to jump into the fanboy butthurt defensive mode immediately once someone says something "bad" about the all-mighty-and-glorious-apple.

You said the most generic, stereotypical thing that every run of the mill apple hater says. You deserve to be called out for it. I even predicted someone would say exactly what you wrote 4 posts before you did. Just calling a spade a spade

 ... says someone who has received more warnings and infractions in this forum than just about anyone else I know.

Stop being so butt-hurt.

Sooooo....

I don't see anything really wrong, legally, with the way this judge behaved. As noted in the FOSS article, it's highly unlikely he was being paid by Samsung or had the promise of paid work in the future and the judge seems to have the serious credentials to be recognized as a patent expert.

But I agree with the article that it's not exactly a GREAT decision.

If Apple began selling wine glasses and then Samsung also began selling wine glasses you would make a thread complaining about it lol

I don't think that would surprise anyone. Samsungs' innovation department is headquartered in Cupertino and has been since the June 29th, 2007. Everybody knows this.

The problem with fanboys is that they see a very typical sarcastic remark as a grave insult to their mighty and infallible (and not to mention innovative!) apple overlords. Ooooh no, I said Apple copied the design of a wallet to make their wallet icon!! So offensive!!

I'm not sure why you feel so insecure about Apple that you need to jump to their defense whenever anybody makes a comment about them.

edit: fixed grammar or you'd start being a grammar nazi too.

Does cheezy have posters of Steve Jobs hung up on his room? Or perhaps invested in Apple? It's funny seeing people so uptight and defensive about a company they don't really have affiliation with.
