The producers allegedly promised the girl's mother that if the girl appeared on the show, they would provide her with psychological counseling, time at a teen boot camp and transportation and a booty busting.

WTF?

Sorry for the out of control daughter who was told to act like a slut, but what has this to do with Maury?

They were supposed to be taking care of her while she was there; by the sounds of it, someone slipped up, and that allowed the rapist access.

They were her temporary gaurdians, they neglected their duties to keep an eye on a 14yr old girl in New York city.

25mill sounds just enough to get their point across.

What kind of mom ships their 14 y/o daughter out to NY with the instructions to act like a trailer-trash slut? She should share some blame

she probably thought she was doing a good thing to help her daughter shape up, and figured her daughter was going to be supervised. Some of these parents are pretty desperate.

man that sux. Maury had absolutely nothing to do with it. If you think about it, what's going to stop copycats?

I have been playing with my county's civil court system computer and it's amazing how some people have case after case:

John Smith Vs Mobil Gas

John Smith Vs McDonalds

John Smith Vs Publix

John Smith Vs Best Buy Corp

etc

Some had over 100 cases...all ending outside of court so it's hard to say if they got paid or just dropped.

If she was a minor and the show guaranteed her travel then I would presume that they are responsible for her until she is delivered to whatever the final destination was. Had she been an adult, it would have been different, but she is a child in the court's eyes and Maury and Company were negligent in ensuring her proper protection and oversight.

This ruling doesn't really mean anything - it still has to go to trial. At this point, the judge could have either thrown the case out or allowed it to be heard. It takes a pretty crazyass allegation to get thrown out.

Total BS! Maury can get any woman in the world he wants. He is a huge TV celebrity. I bet he has women all over him where ever he goes. Yet for some reason he is gonna leave all that, and do some 14 year old. Yeah sure buddy. Have you seen his wife? SOoooo HOT! No way some 14 year old can compare to that ugly girl. He is innocent, and I hope the court finds him innocent.

Damn........ That really sucks.

But I really don't see how they can fault the show. I dunno. What are they suing them for, exactly? Not providing enough security? Heh.

Dude once again you just blew all your credibility here. Where did anyone say Maury was going for the 14yo at all? Nice knee jerk reaction to something you assumed was the story at hand....

This is why I am Pro-Choice.

Ok, we're talking about a 14-year old girl who was on an "out of control teens" episode. Why are we all assuming she's telling the truth? Is it not possible that she is just some trailor trash dirtbag looking to make a quick buck. ..

Well, what if there was a murderer who was on a shooting spree that day and happened to shoot her as well while he was doing it. Can the show be held responsible then? They can't control everything. I wouldn't sue the police if I was assaulted, even though I'm supposed to be protected by them.

She's a minor who was entrusted to the care of the show. Yes, they were responsible for her security while she was there.

Your police analogy is totally different.

How about this: you take your child to the baby sitter's house and while there, the child falls into the pool and drowns. Is the baby sitter liable?

The show's personnel were responsible for the minor in their care, and I don't see how they can escape liability. (Going by the few facts in the article, that is.)
