I think I only got spanked with a belt a few times (I got wooden spoons and hands instead? Heh. One of the spoons actually broke on me too. That was funny.), but it's not that bad. It doesn't leave marks unless you whip with the buckle or have one hell of a hand and hit some place ultra tender.

It stings for a minute, it goes away, you move on.

The girl wasn't crying for several minutes.... The video isn't even more than 8 minutes long. And about 5-6 of those minutes do not even involve the belt being used.

For ATOT, supposedly the epitome of manlihood and godliness, you're all a bunch of wusses.

Yeah, it takes a real man to beat on a defenseless child for 10 minutes.

I can't believe that anyone would view this as acceptable. That wasn't a spanking, it was a beating.

I was never beaten, but I sure did see other neighborhood kids getting whipped and crying for damaging property / leaving expensive toys in the yard, etc, etc.

I have nothing against spankings. They last a minute, 30 seconds even. You don't wail on your child for several minutes. This was a prolonged beating, plain and simple.

Watch the video, count the actual seconds of beating, and you'll realize it's not even 3 minutes. I can guarantee that!

Dr. Drew is a bad reference to use. And, I don't know the best way to handle this child, as they are not my child, but everyone is different. Some respond better to whippin's and some don't. I responded to whippin's.

No one condone this. And you refer to the video, he didn't really blow his top till she refused to let him smack her on the rear. I raised a child all the way to adulthood. Its easy to sit and look at that video and cast all kind of judgement. But I been there, this dude lost his cool. But most posting some of this nonsense ain't parents and don't have the first clue.

Let me know when you get the first accident bill and they weren't suppose to be driving the car. Let me know when they lose, literally several hundred bucks while on a trip. Get your first whopper cell bill. Let me know when you hear the boyfirend and his friends swing by at 3 am in the morning. Let me know when you go through these situations without losing your cool. And I can post many many other wonderful opportunitys.

I said very plainly at her age, he is wrong here. But I don't have a problem with someone hitting someone with a belt. But I say all that not to say I fully condone this, but as a parent, I can understand his slip here.

Yeah, I don't have kids. However, I've never hit anyone or anything that I cared about. Sure, I may lose my cool.. for me that means yelling and screaming, being angry.

This was physical abuse. No way around it. I was not spanked as a child and I will not spank my children. That includes hitting them with a belt, and it sure as hell includes not beating them with a belt for several minutes.. lol. Ridiculous.

Edit: Just to clarify, I didn't mean that a normal spanking is physical abuse. There's nothing wrong with a normal spanking. Those generally happen between the ages of 2 and ten though. Not 16... And they last for maybe a minute, not several.

i call that justified punishment and discipline. it's great though, you see all these threads about slapdick kids screwing around in american classrooms with no discipline, no respect for teachers... administrators and teachers cursing on message boards wishing those all those parents would actually discipline their kids... charter schools skyrocketing and dumbing down the curriculum for kids who just don't listen and screw around all day / got kicked out. then you see the crybabies in this thread crying about a belt whipping from a kid who clearly knew she fucked up. no fists, no blood, no starvation, no throwing the kid into a wall. good hard discipline.

Well I am from the old school. I took an ass whooping like that yearly. But by the time I was her age I was just too big, lol. The whooping doesn't bother me, but at her age it ain't doing no good. If more parents commanded repsect along these lines though, kids today would be better off. I tell my daughters, if you won't respect me, then you won't respect anyone else. I may smack you, but someone in street may put a bullet in you. If you won't respect me, you ain't gonna respect your teachers or the police. Character is partly developed through discipline. I have no problem with the ass whooping, but at her age, a different approach is needed.

What's happening in the video does not occur in a normal healthy parent-child relationship. It's also not a normal reaction to assume someone is a bitch, tramp, fraud, etc... simply because their father is beating them. Is there another reason you assumed all those awful things about her?

My wife is my high school sweetheart and she was beat like that by her mom. the last time she was 17 and it was for not letting the neighbors dogs out one day while the neighbors were on vacation. why didnt she let them out? because she had to go to work right after she got out of school that day. when my wife cried and said owwww she got the belt across her face. she came to my house that night and my dad went ape shit and did something i thought he would never do. he told my wife that she was now living with us and then got in his car and went to my wifes parents house and told my wifes mom point blank that her daughter was now living with us and that he took pictures of the belt marks. If she did anything to stop him from getting her personal stuff out of her room he would go straight to the cops.

to this day i detest my mother in law with all my being and i make no effort at all to be nice to her or to let my kids be around her.

i really hope that piece of shit hangs himself.
