I wouldn't walk across the street to see that show if it was free. Well maybe to see Cheap Trick but I'd leave as soon as they were done. If Journey ever makes it into the R&R HoF then being in the R&R HoF would mean nothing.

Rush isn't in the R&R HoF. How could it possibly mean anything at all?

Well they belong there a hell of a lot more than that Nancy Band Journey.

R&R HoF -> Dave Marsh -> Rolling Stone Mag -> hates Rush.

Actually, Journey's first couple of albums were good. They were very popular here.
Then they hired Steve Perry and went commercial.

I might stay for Heart as well.

edit: Bun E. Carlos is one of the great underrated Rock drummers, and Rick Nielsen is as great a showman as he is a guitarist.

I think Neal Schon is one of the most under rated guitarists in rock history.

Every Journey song contains one of his solos and they are all pretty good. He is not flashy in his talent like Van Hallen or others, but his solos are all very solid.

Also, his guitar work and Perry's voice is what made the band.

Not everyone loves Journey; while their instrumentalists are undeniably very talented, IMHO Steve Perry has one of the most annoying voices in popular music.
psst <Steve Perry hasn't sang with Journey for like 10 years, don't tell anybody>...
So his voice is no longer on any of those crappy old Journey songs the OP referenced?

Exactly!
AS wierd as it sounds, there is some truth to this.
Arnel has re-recorded The Dirty Dozen and those songs are the ones being played on mostAOR / Classic Rock radio stations.
The differences are very subtle, but they're different versions than the re-mastered stuff Perry released in 2002 or so in order to fulfill his end of a contract w/ Sony.

They are the Rodney Dangerfield of the music business, never getting any respect.
This despite many technological innovations in concert production they developed, video screens being the one that is most often forgotten.

^ They were also one of the first MTV bands and helped change the music business that way.

LOL
Which one of the band members ran off with your ex wife? It's clear you hate em and that's ok Red. Seems to me they're doing quite well these days, but it also seems like there's been some pockets of hate around them lately, if for nothing more than hiring a singer from the Philippines, just from some of the comments I've read out there....and some of them are really hateful and blunt. I'm glad to see that much of it has subsided and people have come to realize that the new guy is doing a pretty damn good job. I was intially drawn to his touching story but later came to admire the type of person he is.

I look forward to seeing them on May 23rd in Sacramento. :)

And Dave Marsh of RS has a hardon for Neal Schon too.

I was pissed that the semi-recent Journey/Def Lepard show sold out so quickly here. That would've been an awesome fucking concert.

Well, if they didn't want to ever sell any records or have anyone talking about them 30 years later, that would have been the thing to do.

First off, Perry is about 60 now, and most anyone at that age (other than Sammy Hagar, whose voice seems to hardly change) has lost some range.

Second: But there is absolutely no evidence that Perry has lost any of his voice at all. He simply doesn't want to tour or record....although he is supposedly recording now, or has been recently.
Randy Jackson saw him recently and said he "still has that golden voice".

I'm quite sure that Perry couldn't sing every Journey song he ever did, night after night, in the same key they were written in, and hit every single note. Hell, he ducked some of the high notes even back in the day.....all singers do.
But if he wanted to tour and play some Journey songs, he could. If he's lost a little range, all the band has to do is tune down a bit, and most would never notice. Many older singers do this. Listen to some live Whitesnake and compare it to the album...they're tuned WAY down.
So was Led Zeppelin in that live concert awhile back, since Plant has absolutely NO high register anymore.

Not a big deal, really. Perry just enjoys being filthy rich and not being in the limelight. He still gets paid from Journey being on tour....what does he need to do anything for?

The rock hall is a load of crap. Come on....freaking Blondie is in there. And they got in before Van Halen? KISS isn't in. Journey isn't in.

Like those bands or not, you don't suck if your songs from 25+ years ago are still getting heavy airplay today. If that doesn't qualify you for a hall of fame, I don't know what does.

Correct, they would have never been selling out venues as a fusion band.

So far this year:
3 sold out shows in Japan
1 sold out show in Manila, which was Arnel's crowning moment in his life, I'm sure. Can you imagine the pride of being plucked via YouTube, only to come home fronting a world famous band?
5 sold out shows in Hawaii. People waited in line and all the Honolulu shows sold out in under 2 hours.

Next stop Sacramento. They've got some pretty big dates in Europe coming up as well. Nah, they can't be relevant anymore. ;)

Arnel's first major outing in Chile with the band

This took huge balls, on Neal Schon's part. The gamble on Arnel could have been a career ender, but it turned out ok.

Infact, Pacfan, in the November of 2008 issue of Guitar Player Magazine, Neal Schon said Steve Perry still gets paid like a motherfucker. The contract ended at the end of 2008. Steve Perry no longer gets any royalties from their tours or any albums going forward. That has got to be a huge release for all of them. They no longer have to live in SMFP's shadow.

And became even more popular but I personally never found their Rock Ballad style all that interesting or pleasing. I remember seeing them for the first time with Steve perry, it was at a David Bowie Concert at the Cow Palace and I was looking forward to some of their hard Rocking tunes and out theyt came with this guy who looked like he got his hairstyle straight from Farah Fawcett and his voice "WHoa WHoa" voice and I was like WTF did they do to this band? Thank God Bowie followed and set the place on fire.

I guess I was never a big fan of Rock Ballad Bands.

Hard to hate on Journey. They've kind of reached a status where everyone can enjoy one of their songs without taking it too seriously.

No Farrah Fawcett here. No sappy ballad. No legacy SP bullshit in this song. It's new. ;)

No wonder Jimmy Page likes Arnel

Jimmy Page and Journey

Moondance Jam coming up.

This should be interesting:

Thursday July 16th
Journey
Sheryl Crow
Kansas
Foghat

Man, I'd love to see Kansas and Foghat! And the headliner is? Yup..Journey

Journey and Def Lep are playing together this year. I've read it, just can't link it. Exciting shit, for sure. :)

Damn besides Sheryl it's a 70's flashback. Seen Foghat several times, they definitely rocked.

Does this mean you're nominating KC and the Sunshine Band for the R&R HoF?
