Josh Hamilton knocks 28 out in first round of HR derby

Some of the bombs he hit were just ridiculous. He hit the back wall of the bleachers and hit the black part of centerfield on a regular basis. Bobby Abreu and David Wright weren't the same the second half of the season when they participated in the derby so lets see what Hamilton does the rest of the way.

Because we are all perfect in every way with no faults.

I have a lot of respect for the guy getting himself out of it. Not too many do. He never whined about it and it wasn't court ordered.

He just wanted to get clean and was sick of the lifestyle.

yah, hats off to him for getting himself help and getting back on track - great story.

Abreu hasn't been the same since - it was more than the Derby that brought him down.

Hamilton has 3 all stars hitting in front of him - he's going to be fine as long as he stays healthy

They interviewed the old guy the other night on the local news. He said the last and only other time he was in Yankee stadium was to see Don Larsen pitch a no hitter.

I loved watching Hamilton here in Cincinnati. I still remember the game against the Indians last year where he threw out the runner at home from the warning track on one hop. It was such a laser throw and everyone was on their feet.

28 in round one, loses. That in a nutshell sums up why the HR Derby is a pathetic joke of an event that the top players want to skip.

 Yeah 'cause conserving your energy and calculating how many HRs you need to hit per round instead of wasting all your energy right outta the gate is just too hard.

Ever watch marathons? Individuals don't run away from the pack in the beginning and expect to win the race.

Why even bother conserving energy? It's just a home run derby; there shouldn't be a need to strategize. Just let them go up there and jack it. Why not make it cumulative throughout?

Sorry, but there is no other excuse for doing drugs other than stupidity. You can't really argue anything else against that.

What makes it worse IMO is that this guy was/would have been a millionaire at 18 right out of high school by playing a kids game. Congrats to him for coming back, but it was stupidity to even get involved with that shit in the first place and I guarantee you he would agree 100%.

Yeah, I've seen marathons. And correct me if I'm wrong, the winner is the guy with the best time over THE ENTIRE EVENT, not the last mile. Other than that minor oversight that merely proves my point instead of yours, great analogy.

ESPN was a joke. Before the game even started Morneau was criticized for even being there. The home run derby is over, he wins and they seem to forget he was even there. Not taking away from Hamilton, it was an amazing performance, but give the winner some credit and admit he did a great job.

I don't think too many people would agree with you.

Combined, Morono hit less than Hamilton's 1 round. He won on pure luck and is a tool anyhow

He hit less home runs the whole day than Hamilton hit in the 1st round... I'll give him credit for tanking, how's that?
