Jon Kyl deletes his lie from the congressional record.

Another example of why politicians are never held accountable. Built into the system is the ability to lie on the floor of the Senate and then have the lie removed. Amazing.

It’s as if it never happened. The outrageous claim by Republican Senator Jon Kyl last Friday, that 90% of what Planned Parenthood does is providing abortions, has magically disappeared from the Congressional records. Apparently, senators can review their statements on the floor of the senate after making them, and make changes for the record

If Senators are allowed to edit their own entries in the congressional why can't a Democrat Senator get on the floor and say..."An interesting thing happened Sen John Kyl on this very floor made a statement 90% of what PP did were abortions. This statement was issued intentionally knowing it wasn't true. How do we know this? Sen Kly's office issued their own statement admitting it. Sen Kyl the proceeded to have this admitted lie removed from the congressional record. I bring this up because Senators must be held accountable for intentionally misleading the public"

Since Sen Kyl wouldn't be making this statement he would be unable to have it removed.

A Record is a Record, it should not be edited after the fact. Might as well do away with it if anyone can go and remove bits at will.

The Senate is "supposed" to be made up of gentleman that do not officially disparage each other.

Doing so, could come back to haunt them.

Many of you on the right don't seem to understand it's not 'gentlemanly' to lie.

And that wrongdoing calls for 'disparaging', lest you promote wrongdoing.

Is this issue, too, going to see opinions based on nothing to do with principle, but only on whether you're on the guy's team?

The guy lied. He was caught. He did not do anything honorable in taking responsibility and apologizing, but issued a remarkable defense of lying.

'The statement was not intended to be factual' is now a classic for a lie.

IMO, the editing of the record to remove *what he said* is a further lie.

Never heard a Senator or Congressman speak without having stated the following:

"reserve the right to revise and extend my remarks"

Majority leader should read a rebuttal into record and officially save those remarks for posterity.

besides we still have the internets..

Jon Kyl is actually a baboon.

#notintendedtobeafactualstatement

Look, you shouldn't turn a dispute just because you have different views from someone, into their being dishonest.

Clearly, he has integrity but everyone makes honest mistakes.

#notintendedtobeafactualstatement

FYI, I called his Washington office, and they say:

He has indicated he 'misspoke', and that the statement from his press office that his speech 'was not intended to be a factual statement' was not from him.

Asked if that means he's disagreeing with his press office, they said he said it 'was not something he said'.

So, at least we're up from 'not intended to be factual' to 'misspoke', but IMO, that's not credible.

This isn't like when you swap two names, or when Obama referred to 50 states many times but referred to 56 states once, that are 'misspeaking'.

This was a falsehood - perhaps intentional, perhaps not, but not a 'misspeaking', rather saying a false fact meaning what he said.

Honestly who gives a f--k. Planned Parenthood if its so critical to women's health should have no problem receiving private donations to fund its operations. I don't think tax money should be going to them, especially since we have Obamacare coming which will fix the issue of women not being able to afford healthcare should it not? Or was that an even bigger lie on OBAMA's part? Lets get the record on what was said when Obamacare was being negotiated.. oh wait, we CAN'T..

I guess its important to have a record of what a single senator says about PP but not important to have a record of a healthcare bill that spends 100's of billions.

Can Senators go back and change their votes too after the fact?

I'm not aware they can, but they can and do make agreements to cast votes that are politically beneficial while guaranteed their vote will lose.

For example, say a politician believes that the debt ceiling has to be raised, but determines there are enough votes to do so.

Then he can pander to the tea party by voting against it, if that will help him politically to say he did so.

One other example is a technicality that a measure that passes can be recalled for another vote only by someone who voted for it.

Because of that rule, you will see Harry Reid vote against his position, for example.

All these lefty celebrities coming out in support of Planned Parenthood should donate some of the money they are cheating the US Government in taxes to PP.. would easily fund it..

Agreed - the guy lied and got caught trying to mislead to get his way.
The record should not be allowed to be 'cleaned' under any circumstance.

And it is likely that many people who listened to that completely believe the statement...sad.

Not only that remember that women can get the same care at Walgreens.

You're right. If Defense is so important, it should be done with Donations too!

Throw welfare and education in there and you have a deal. 🙄 I'm willing to guess if given the choice between donating toward our army and donating toward free abortions, the army might have a little better time fundraising.

A large portion of services PP provides is contraception. Take that away you get more unplanned pregnancies resulting in more abortions. Since that is the #1 issue of your side you should give your money to PP.

Defense, a function of our federal govt outlined by the constitution. Planned Parenthood, a private organization dedicated to reproductive rights and health. Not outlined by the constitution.

Comparison fail.
