I played the beta and thought "This is BF2, only with more bugs and less fun." The demo wasn't much better.

Count me in, I'm sick of paying EA to piss in my face.

Here i am, a big BF2 fan, ready to defend the BF series...... right up untill i saw the word "spyware".

BF2 is a great game that i'd recomended to anyone to try, but it has a very different game play that numerious people don't like. I like it because it allows so much freedom in how you play the game, and the bugs don't bug me (even if i lost all the unlocked weapons i ranked up over several months).

BUT spyware is going to far. If they want extra cash, CHARGE EXTRA. Even if i can block the spyware, i don't know if i'll still get it (and i'm a big BF2 fan).

Meh, my clan is not getting into it and neither are my friends in RL. I am not playing it alone. Add me to your list.

How are you going to boycott the "amazing" game that you "can't wait to start playing?"

Don't get me wrong, BF 2142 sucks, and the spyware is going too far. And I fully support this idea of a boycott, also to add that I myself am in.

HOWEVER ... all this effort, and all the confirmations from us won't even have any effect whatsoever, considering that EA already has made money with it. It MIGHT be giving them a lesson for the NEXT game they make, to never include any sort of spyware nor ads in-game, and that I'd wish so. But as I said, as far as BF 2142 is concerned I think it's kinda too late. I'm not sure if even a "loss" of $100,000 from any boycott(s) would scratch their ego at all nor influence the decisive minds at the administration.

Lemmie splan, no lemmie sum up, less money to EA makes those of us that expect more from game developers/distributers ... happy!

I don't know, in my local Bloated Buy I've seen tons of BF2142 games on the shelf instead of empty like I remember the BF2 ones. Are we going to sack EA? No. Are we going to Change the world? No. But as consumerists all we can use is our purchasing power to really get through to companies. Some protests don't work, but as time goes by those protests are remembered to be against an idea that a lot of people thought was bad, therefore possibly preventing its re-occurence.

I'm not doubting that they've already made money from it. It's not like it cost them a lot to make it. BF2 altered for the future, other companies paying them to place ads in their game, and a $50 price tag for a ~$5 investment on their part would yield some good profit.

I will probably play it too, but what pisses me off the most is the product placement in the game. Can't I go anywhere without seeing some marketing scam jammed down my throat. Now that the advertising industry is losing revenue due to Tivo/DVRs and Internet TV, the entire media industry is looking for a new method of paying for our entertainment.

In television, the commodity being sold is viewers; the customers are advertisers. This market dynamic results in media that caters to the lowest common denominator. Advertisers just want to have the eyeballs of the public. Product quality suffers because the customer is not to public. We don't drive the industry.

With product placement and in game advertising, we are going to move to that same paradigm. The gamer will cease to be the customer. Our interests will be secondary to the interests of Proctor and Gamble, Coke, and, Pfizer.

Why can't we just pay for the games and keep the advertisers out. If commercials start popping up in computer games, I will stop playing games just as I have stopped watching television. I will not be a commodity that is bought and sold.

Well put. I don't think other companies will turn to those methods since not all games warrant advertising.

Racing, sports, etc.-- probably ads, it fits the genre.

RPG, most RTS's-- not so much. Can you imagine a Pepsi ad in Medieval or NWN2?

Fingers crossed anyway. As long as it isn't IN-GAME I can stand it. Heck, out of game ads happen already during the game launching process and things.

Hello to all,
I,m new to this form and would all so like to add my name to this list to BOYCOTT 2142, Dont know what the count is here but have sign many place,s to show EA/Dice-IGA and their future advertiser,s I will not support them. I also would like to leave one other thought after watching and reading the EA forms. Many have said they havnt seen any ad,s yet and looks like they have release patch 1.05 & 1.06. There seems to be more trouble now than before any patching was release the form,s:roll: are flooded today. I feel 2142 is doomed any way and if they cant get the game running how will the advertiser,s react to EA/Dice and IGA if they were already payed for the ads to be place with in the game? This could get interesting. Like to hear more about what some of you think.

I've been boycotting all Electronics Arts products since after Battlefield 1942. I loved BF1942, but I hated the bugs, and since Dice/EA can't be bothered with quality assurance and generally polishing their games, I'm not giving them any of my money.

Glad to see lots of people boycotting those scumbags!
