After reading more, count me in. My main reason for the boycott is EA's terrible send you the same 10 things you've already tried tech support. I can deal with ad's in the game as long as they don't spy on me and I don't have to shell out $50 for a program with ads, I could understand ads if they helped pay for servers and such. IMHO one of the best uses for ads was in Rollercoaster tycoon 3(Hershey themed rides etc)

I didn't buy it and I won't buy it, I have no interest in playing it really at all. After giving the demo a run for about 30 minutes it felt slow, sluggish, and increasingly painful to play with walkers and spaceships running around.

Awesome game. So happy I bought it. Compared to all the other crap that is out right now this one blows them all away.

I'm all for this boycott of BF2142 (I'm on the list even), but I think we all shouldn't be so short-sighted and call out the name of Quake Wars at every turn. Quake Wars isn't even out, may not even be any good, and may be similar buggy software. We think we're being smart about not buying 2142, but we act like we'd put down money for QW right now.
Sorry for us relying on the developers reputation for making GAMES THAT WORK clouding our judgement.
Reputation? Quake Wars is being developed by a company named Splash Damage. Their history of work? One game according to IGN. Oh ya, Gamespotsays the same thing. Reputation is earned, not given.

So my post still stands. And, oh ya, apology accepted.

We all know if it was an EA title it would be out now with alpha code, and we would be awaiting 5 patches to get the game to playable.

Your post still stands? Its being developed on the doom 3 engine.

I sincerely hope youre not comparing the doom 3 engine to anything ever developed by EA games.

LOL.

I would join your boycott OP, but you can't boycott something you never had any intention of buying in the first place. I'll gladly do a I'm-not-paying-for-a-piece-of-shat-cott in its stead through for you.

I won't buy it or install it. This is ridiculous we can't let this slide other game developers will do the same it's not like the price of the game has got any cheaper therefore there getting payed for people buying the game and advertisements. I also state that we should push for EA to support widescreen more and more people are using widescreen displays but of course EA is a dumb piece of $h1t and calls widescreen "cheating".

EA you blow!

LOL. Fair enough.

List updated and sent to OP. Also, I suggested that the boycott 2142 website be put in the OP as well.

Keep em coming guys, we have to get the word out as much as possible that this example of business practice is something to be shameful of and that if gamers want to keep the immersion of a game in the hands of the developers instead of in the hands of corrupt publishers, they have to use their powers as consumers to get the real message across. It's nice to have a thread like this that simply lets those who use that power voice their feelings as to why.

I have to admit I wasn't planning on buying BF2142 anyway, but I do promise to let all my gamer friends know about this too so they're at least aware of the issue.

So you can add my name to the list as well. :) I signed the petition at the boycott site too - I play as "ImaTarget" :D

Count me in! I haven't bought (and won't be buying) 2142 for all the reasons mentioned in the OP.

Something I thought about yesterday. Not sure if this has been proposed here yet or not (long thread, don't care to read it all).
EA is using the in game ads for the purpose of boosting revenue. In order for any boycott to be effective the revenue lost from people refusing to buy the game must be greater than the revenue generated by said ads. Now I have no idea how much the ads are generating for EA I am willing to bet lost sales * $50 per game is not going to equal that number. So we need to tip the balance in our favor by reducing EA's ad revenue. Best way I can think to do this is let it be known that those who advertise with EA will be included in the boycott! This will hopefully influence companies to take their advertising dollars elsewhere, seriously cut into EA's revenue, and let EA know we will not be ignored.
If those who already have the game could start a thread listing EA's advertisers so we will know what else not to buy it would be appreciated.

You can add me as well. BF1942 is the only BF game I've bought, and if this keeps up, it will be the last.
