John Sununu says Powell endorsed Obama because he is black.

Race must be the reason for the endorsement. Romney is a very excellent candidate with strong principles and some well defined solutions to the tough problems facing us.

Well if he wanted a candidate with strong principles I certainly wouldn't endorse the candidate that too 3.5 years into his term to figure out what he thought marriage meant. :colbert:

Blacks vote democrat by a huge margin. Throw in a black candidate and you get even more votes. A black candidate who is conservative is an uncle tom or sell out or 'acts white'. It's more about being liberal/democrat than black. Colin Powell should probably switch parties.

Now there's some real racism. Black people shouldn't be allowed to be mentally defective. I like it.

What a coincidence! Gay marriage is one of the three things Romney has never changed his mind about. The other two are:
-drug legalization
-the fact that he should be president

In 1960 Republicans got 32% of the black vote. In 1964 it was 6%. I won't do your homework for you but maybe Republicans need to find out what went wrong.

Hint: rhymes with muthern matergy

Wow that's so racist.

We forget two things. (1) Colin Powell has been a lifelong republican. As Colin is also a black man who made it in a white world because he has the "right stuff", on sheer character and merit. As the feat to rise to the top of the American military without a West Point or similar military academy background makes Powell almost unique. And at one time, parts of the GOP were touting Colin Powell for President. As for many in the USA like me and others, accusing Powell of racial bias is an insult to Colin Powell's long and distinguished military and diplomatic career. (2) In 2008, the GOP partisan's were salivating with glee, as the 2008 Democratic nomination became a contest of two minorities. In one corner was a black man, only 11% or so of the American public. In the other corner was Hillary Clinton, a white female. As the female demographic could perhaps appeal to over 50% of US voters. But of course Hillary Clinton was not just any ordinary female, as the GOP hate machine had at least 17 years invested in demonizing Hillary Clinton affectionate pet name like Swillery and the Hildabeast. As Hillary Clinton was also the central character in every conspiracy theory the inventive minds of the GOP could come up with. As Hillary supposedly killed Vince foster, was in the thick of whitewater, received investment favors, imported Cocaine along with her husband, and need I go on. And worse yet, her daughter Chelsie was so ugly, only proved God cursed and had it in for Hillary. As for the GOP spinmasters in 2008, its was a win win and can't lose delicious dilemma. Who to demonize, Obama or Hillary during the GOP and Democratic primaries. If Obama won, they could demonize him as a black, and better yet, if Obama won the democratic nomination, every female in the entire democratic party and larger nation would rise up and vote against Obama. As Hillary would then renounce the democratic party and form her own third party, or better yet endorse the GOP. Meanwhile the same GOP spinmasters did their best to tout the virtues of Rudy Guillani, Fred Thompson, and even the darling of the religious right in Mike Huckabee. And instead found the moderate least supportive of GWB Candidate in John McCain walking away with 2008 GOP nomination.

In short, nothing new to see here, the clueless GOP spin machine is up to their old tricks
as they understand only their own propaganda.

But what horrifies me, with Romney the GOP may succeed in 2012. But then the GOP will have to govern, something the GOP seems incapable of doing since 1992. As Romney may become the next Hubert Hoover if he wins.

It is not the GOP it is Obama the divider and chief, this country has not been this racially divided in over 50 years. Fortunately not everyone of color has bought in to what Obama is selling like Condoleezza Rice, Herman Cain, JC Watts, Allen West and this guy;

http://thyblackman.com/2012/10/10/the-black-divider-in-chief-yes-barack-obama/

It isn't Obama that is dividing the country...hell it isnt even Romney that is racist nor dividing the country

It is the fact that the people that identify America as WHITE is upset that the OTHER AMERICA is going to reelect a Black President.

Think about it. There is no overt racism here...it is the 2 Americas that have always been at odds...it is under the surface of EVERYTHING

This is America as it has always been. Not one individual is starting it, it's always been there just waiting for the right situation to bring it all to the surface. And here we are....

Simple, it was The Great Society Legislation of the 60's that liberals used enslave minorities to welfare thus guaranteeing them multi-generation life time voters, and subsequently destroyed the minority family structure and community along with it.

Such a load of crap.

There are plenty of white people collecting from those same programs, and if the elites that the Republicans pander to so shamelessly were half as patriotic as they pretend to be we wouldn't have so many jobs in china and so many people on unemployment and food stamps here in America.

For economic reasons, given that blacks have taken a bigger hit in this Repub policy induced Depression...

I'm sure some blacks vote for Obama because he's black, just as some whites vote against him for the same reason... The latter being what Sununu attempts to reinforce.

Whites are still the vast majority of voters.

Let us do some analysis

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2008#Analysis

So for 2004
White vote 58-41 Bush/Kerry
Black vote 11-88 Bush/Kerry

2008
White vote 55-43 McCain/Obama
Black vote 4-95 McCain/Obama

So Obama gained 7/11 Black voters that he could have possibly gained while only gaining 3/58 white voters he could have gained.

64% of the black voters who could switch to voting for Obama did, please explain why this would happen for any reason beyond voting for the black candidate?

Which is why I included white voters as a control group. The rate of potential switchers who switch was 10-1

And this might be relevant if someone well known white Democrat endorsed Romney.

Deflect 😉

It's not a deflection at all. Blacks have taken a bigger employment hit than the rest of the population in the aftermath of disastrous Repub policy-

Blacks are still a small % of the electorate, although increasing in 2008-

Barack Obama's race was one of the major themes of the 2008 presidential election. The CPS 2008 CVAP turnout rates by race indicate that the Black, non-Hispanic turnout rate of 65.2% just barely fell shy of the White, non-Hispanic turnout rate of 66.1%. Still, Black turnout increased 4.9 percentage points from 2004, while White turnout decreased by 1.1 percentage points. This increasing Black turnout rate is consistent with the media's exit polls that showed that Blacks were an increasing share of the electorate, increasing from 11% in 2004 to 13% in 2008. The Hispanic CPS turnout rate also increased by 2.7 percentage points, but still lags far behind other racial groups.

http://elections.gmu.edu/CPS_2008.html

It's not surprising that blacks have more enthusiasm in an election that doesn't pit two old white guys against each other... Just as I'm sure that enthusiasm among white conservatives would lag if it were Cain vs Obama.

There are roughly 8X as many non-black voters, so it's no wonder that Sununu makes a veiled racist pitch for their votes rather than black votes. He'll get more votes by holding the faithful in the pews than pitching to blacks because even if he won back the % of black voters who switched to Obama it wouldn't swing the election for Romney.

Let's face it- blacks are a disproportionate share of the unemployed & the 47% Romney vilifies, not to mention that govt jobs are highly prized among the black working class for the stability & benefits they provide. It's not like they see Repubs' Cut, cut, Cut! govt spending & jobs as a good thing, at all. Why would they?

They already experience what a lot of middle & working class whites haven't figured out, that we're all Ni@@ers to the true Bush constituency, and will be treated accordingly whenever their boys take the reins of govt. It's not really a racist thing, although they knowingly exploit racism, but rather a class warfare thing...

What went wrong it couldn't have turned out better. Abe was first ever republican president. They want to vote on the side that wanted to keep them slaves I find it amusing . Not the southern side either , Talking About the demon that ran against abe the repulsive. They likein them they're gooberment checks so they sold themselves back to the dems for a welfare check.

This is nice, but like CK you're not talking to Socio but to Sociopath. He can't hear you.

Maybe Sununu confused Powell with Samuel L. Jackson since all blacks probably look alike to him. Never did like Sununu.

Nah, Sam Jackson is the guy with the MF Snakes - Obama is the guy who said "did I do that" a lot when he was younger. They are easy to tell apart...geesh!

I was adderessing the post I quoted . Lots of people have sold their votes for welfare . I don't know any blacks that have . But I know a great deal about the white ones. They don't follow politics or care. They vote straight dem. without knowing an issue. As long as gooberment pays for food and bills alllls good.

Howard Stern had a bunch of them interviewed in New York. He purposefully told them positions Obama is against and pretended Obama was for them and then asked them if that is why they supported Obama. They all said yes.

How did he select them? They call in to his show or did he announce the event on there or something?

If that is the case it just proves that his audience is full of morons, which is not new information.

He had a guy walking the streets. Someone posted the video of it on this forum (I think) a little bit ago. Stern was flabbergasted. As for if anything was edited out (like people who knew the real info), I cannot say...it IS Howard Stern...

Everyone seems to be missing my point, the GOP base is shrinking and they need minorities for future voters. Comments like this do nothing but shun them away.

Sununu is a man of stature and as such should be taking the moral high ground and work to bring in minorities.

Sununu is a man that a victim of slavery of him self Obama and Poweel they are free man and general Powell endorse who he wish.

Meaningless as in untrue, or meaningless as in you don't want to see it?

Meaningless as in without meaning. It ignores the massive increase in black voters when a black man was on the ballot for president via a major political party.

Personally, if I was a black man and a black man had a real chance of winning the presidency, I would have voted for him for that reason alone too. I would have done it to show the young blacks that there is no longer anything they cannot do.
