The album sounds ok from what I've heard so far, but I hate "Bigger than my Body." That song just sucks -- sounds massively overproduced.

All said, I don't really like the direction JM is taking, but that's because I think he's more talented than the music he's making right now. He's a great guitarist and a decent vocalist, but I don't really think this album showcases it.

What do you think of "Tracing," the song posted a few posts up?? How does it compare to the theme of the new album?

I'm still waiting on my pre-order of the CD to get here from CircuitCity.com to get here. I bought it online using my MSN Dollars :p

Tracing doesn't really give you a good idea of the theme of the new album... but it's still a great song.

<-- was at Best Buy when they opened this morning to buy his copy. ;)

picked it up this afternoon and love it... as JohnCU said, the "Tracing" song doesnt really describe the theme of the album... "Tracing" really fits his old style of complex acoustically driven songs, with optional band support. his new album has simpler guitar chords that are meant to fit with a full band.

he did a great job of explaining this shift and the reasons behind it in his NPR interview. theres a link to the recording of the interview at the top of that page.

my only real complaint is Come Back to Bed... the live version is sooooo much better, not just because of the extra jamming and energy, but because it lacks those horrible saxes... i would really like to know wtf he was thinking when they did that:brokenheart:

but the rest of the album is great... i highly recommend it:)

I love the extended jam sessions on Any Given Thursday. My GF loves JM, but hates the instrumental portions of the CD. We were driving in the car the other day and I was jamming to the instrumental part of Covered in Rain and she FLIPPED TO THE NEXT TRACK:| Oh man was I pissed, but I held it in

OMG!! I about lost it. I started gripping the steering wheel REAL hard, then I just looked at her and smiled and said "I see you got tired of hearing his solo" to which she replied "Why can't he just get to the damn words"

This interview is damned good. And you're right Oscar, it does explain his change in rythm.

I was just grinning from ear to ear when he was talking about how Room for Squares was all about movin' movin' movin' and he started laying down pieces from each song from that album :D

John has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard. I'm not a huge fan of his music. I wouldnt go buy his CD's, but man his voice could just melt me.

LOL. No one is in Dave Matthews league b/c he is so f'ing terrible. I would rather watch paint dry than endure an album of that pompous dick.
Edit: JM sucks ball$ also.

you have to put the cd in your computer, then (if it doesnt autostart) you double click the CDExtra.exe on the cd, then click the star icon which will bring you to a site that lets you sign in and view the videos of the acoustic versions of clarity and come back to bed.

There's a resemblance to dave matthews band in this song.. or at least he's singing like him...

Contrary to what NFS4 would have us believe, John Mayer has ALWAYS sung like Dave Matthews. He uses a lot of the same stylings. There's nothing wrong with this, but it is pretty obvious.

They sound similar in some respects...lots of people sound similar to each other. But I don't go WOW, he sounds exactly like Dave when I play his music and I have all three albums of his (pre-ordered the newest one from Circuit City which will make 4)

You are the whitest black guy I've ever seen.
