Apparently, one of Ashcroft's aids doesn't like Ashcroft standing infront of a naked b00b. Nevermind that it's art and hasn't bothered any AGs since the 30's.

This kind of ignorant censorship makes me sick. I'm sure this aide would also put blue jeans on David, just like Maude Flanders.

LOL

He lost your vote because a junior aide thought it would be a good idea to cover up the sculpted breast for a television run?

Censorship??

"The most famous picture of the female statue came in the 1980s, when Attorney General Edwin Meese released the final report of his commission on pornography"

I suppose that if you moved to Missouri and he ever tried to run for the Senate again, that might matter. ;)

Some people are making a big deal over the money...I have a problem with money. My biggest problem is considering art pornographic. It's a statue that's listed in all the art guides to D.C., not a Penthouse print.

It was his aide. He could have told him to STFU and stop being a friggin moron. He chose not to so he accepts the decision. A man is a compilation of all his decisions.

and I abhor all PC BS. It's the friggin statue of Lady Justice and it is art...

Ashcroft has been very "anal" about any type of sexual references, porn or porn related businesses, etc. since his wife was raped many years ago. It worked well for him in Missouri and the Mid-West in gneral as he has/had a lot of support from those areas, but, anyone whom knew of him before also knew he would eventually attempt to force his views and ideas on the rest of the nation and to be honest..............it just isn't going to work! For the most part, if you listen to what he says, IMO anyway, he has 1950's views in a 2002 America..........;)

Go get your moring coffee. Heck maybe drink 2 or 3 cups and then think about this again.

Wake up people:

"He did not know this was being done," Comstock said. "The attorney general has more important things to do than worry about what appears in pictures."

For the longest time, the White House was renting the curtains at $2100 a pop to cover things such as elevators. So maybe they'll save money by censoring the statues...until the WH needs to use curtains again.

Ashcroft's views on pr0n aside - anyone doing a television address should consider how the audience will react to what will be shown on screen, regardless of what they personally think about it.

Last time I checked, Attorney General was not an elected position.

Keep in mind this was not his decision in any event. In all fairness, though, this is the same man who refuses to dance because it incites sinful urges - I don't doubt he would have objected to the statue had he been asked.

ok then future vote if he decides to actually run for anything.

Why don't we actually interpret the separation of church and state in this...He, and his underling, are enforcing their religious moralities on us and making us pay 8 grand in tax dollars for it.

No, it wasn't his decision, but like Nitemare says, he's apparently standing by the decision.

As for considering his audience, anyone who is insulted by a naked breast in a non-pornographic situation has some serious issues. These are the same people who think breast feeding an offensive and dirty thing that should be done in private.

I don't disagree at all - to me his refusal to dance is even more bizarre. You seem to imply that I am defending him, and I don't see that in my post at all.

I was going to post this, but I didn't have time to.

I think there's a certain irony in the fact that the head of the Justice department doesn't want his picture taken with a statue named "Spirit of Justice".

Given the AG's attitude with enforcing HIS views on the rest of America, and the "reduction" of civil rights after 9/11, I find it funny. OK, at times scary.

edit: Corrected the name.

Maybe I am just a perv but when I look first saw picture I saw the b00bs first then him. I understand the decision. I would rather people have their attention on me instead of the rack in the back.

The guy doesn't feel comfortable giving news conferences in front of a bare breast . So What!! He's got that right.

Clinton would probably be feeling it up during the conference :)

Anyone who can look at that statue and think that it is anything sexual is either sexually repressed or a 13 year old male. I wonder which applies to Ashcroft's aide????

Sure, he has the right to feel uncomfortable. He does not have the right to censor a non-sexual piece of art because he's ashamed of the human body (he, or the aide).

This is just cosmetic stuff...

The really scary stuff is under the surface...

all the changes he's making to the legal system

you can bet his iron hand is spreading out near and far

"We don't need no stinkin' evidence...I can tell by looking at him that he's guilty" John Ashcroft Justice
