I've been seeing a lot of commericals for FOX's Joe Millionaire.

Synopsis of the show:

?IN A WAY, we?re ripping the mask off the people (who sign up for shows like ?The Bachelor?),? Fox reality programming chief Mike Darnell said. ?We find out whether they?re really doing this for love.?
?Joe? features 20 single women who fly to France in order to win the affection of a hand-some American they believe to be worth $50 million. The twist: The as-yet unidentified man is actually a construction worker with an annual income of $19,000.
?It?s the gold diggers and the ditch digger,? one Fox insider said.
Viewers will know from the start that the faux Joe is actually a blue-collar guy with no coin to his name. They?ll also watch as he undergoes a Pygmalion-like transformation from humble construction worker into someone who might pass for a multimillionaire.
The 20 women who participated in the show, however, are told Joe recently inherited $50 million and is looking for someone with whom he can share his wealth. Joe will maintain this ruse, though he?ll be honest with the women about every other aspect of his life, from education to past romances.

Does anyone else think this is kinda wrong (or at least worse than "Temptation Island")?

Peace,
Dezign

i think to say this is wrong would be to somewhat imply that marrying someone because of the money they have is right.

it does kind of suck for them, but then again, most of those chicks are after the guy for money..maybe they deserve a slap in the face.

No, i think this is funny. How many girls do you think would have wanted to be on a show that was about some schmuck that was poor other that to be on tv???
I am glad they are-in a way-making fun of the Batchlor! Its true, are the girls on shows like this in it for love or money?

Just out of curiosity, how do you think reactions/etc. would be if the situation were reversed?

A supposedly "rich" woman choosing between 20 guys... and at the end, the winning man discovering she wasn't a $50-million heiress, she only makes $19k/year as a construction worker/secretary/whatever. Do you think the guy would care? Suppose she was pretty hot, too... (I guess that's only fair, given the fact Mr. Joe Millionaire isn't that hard on the eyes)

More than likely not. Although it is hard to recall a time when a guy married a lady for money. Usually it is the other way around 98% of the time. Are you upset because you are the type that would have been all lovey dovey with him to get his money?

I think this sums it up. I mean seriously, how many of those women would have signed up if the advertisement read:

"Really attractive construction worker is looking to share his life with that special someone"

Put whatever words you want to in that sentence, but you wouldn't have hundreds/thousands of extremely attractive women from all different parts of the country lining up to get a shot at him.. take away the money, the line would have been empty. Take away the money after all the bonding... who knows... but is that really the type of woman you want? One who initially signed up for the $?

Look forward to watching it!

I'm not saying being a gold-digger is a good thing, but lying about how much money you have to get someone to marry you is much worse, bordering on evil.

Just curious about the social implications... just frustrated with double standards. And nah... money isn't an issue for me. It's nice to have, but up until recently, I was dating a broke-@ss boy with no car who lived with his parents. I picked him over guys with M3's, Z350's, Porsche's, etc. If I was on the show and I found out Mr. Millionaire only made $19k/year, I'd be angry I was deceived, not because of the cash figures. If I really liked him as a person, I'd stick with him (assuming I won :p ).

i don't like it. they are accentuating the worst aspects of human beings and belittling the best aspects. there is no winning scenario here. what is the absolute best way that the girl can react to the news.

first of all they chose gold diggers. specifically women who were willing to show their most intimate sides to the world in hopes of marrying a rich man so even if the girl totally acts the perfect part, as if it all means nothing to her that he is just a construction worker, you will still have most of the world thinking, "she's got an angle".

i hate this because it glorifies the worst things about us and i don't see any reason to glorify those things. call me self righteous if you will, i don't like it.

i pity everyone on that show, the women, joe, the producers, the sponsors. everyone they are profitting on bringing out the worst in people and i don't like it.

did i say i don't like the idea of this show yet?

I hadn't seen the previous postings of this, so it's news to me.

I haven't watched any of the other shows... but I may watch the last ep of this show just to see the girl's reaction.

Fox = PURE TRASH! ... i LOVE FOX. Been my favorite networks since i was just a lad watching The Tracy Ulman Show. I think the Simpsons shorts got me hooked.

The best part about the commericals is when the guy says "who would do something like this? FOX!"

next week, Jan 6 =)

I'll watch.

I think another good show would be a rip off of American Idol, but while the people are singing, the audio equipment messes up or someone cuts in over the speakers for an announcment, and they tell the contestent they'll be judged on the performance, and that there are no do overs.
