Are they really? Don't they have atoms/molecules that shed electrons when absorbing photons? Just guessing here...They kinda are, aren't they?![]()

What charges their cells? Are they really? Don't they have atoms/molecules that shed electrons when absorbing photons? Just guessing here...
We're talking about solar panels here, are we not? Cells? Charged cells? That smacks of batteries. What charges their cells?
Looks like I was right:Are they really? Don't they have atoms/molecules that shed electrons when absorbing photons? Just guessing here...
Simply put, a solar panel works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity. ... (Photovoltaic simply means they convert sunlight into electricity.) Many cells linked together make up a solar panel.
Looks like I was right:
No, I was trying to be clever, they're powered by a nuclear reaction some 93,000,000 away, so technically they're nuclear poweredAre they really? Don't they have atoms/molecules that shed electrons when absorbing photons? Just guessing here...

Technically all energy produced on earth is nuclear powered. The only except would be tidal, but the water would be ice if not for the sun, so kind of.No, I was trying to be clever, they're powered by a nuclear reaction some 93,000,000 away, so technically they're nuclear powered

...neutrinos, though. apparently get here almost instantly, so when the Sun goes nova we'll all be almost immediately boiled alive by the neutrino flux, long before the main body of the sun engulfs the planet and destroys it (not sure exactly how long after neutrino-aggeddeon that would happen). We could probably get early warning with a neutrino detector, though there's nothing we could do about it once we realise it's coming. Even duck-and-cover drills won't help.
Typically, Biden and the Democrats have no plan for preparing for this crisis.
It was my sarcasm meter pinning, which you missed, which is OK... you didn't know I was a physics major.Bingo. Which is not the same as nuclear power (energy from separating or joining the neutron / proton formation aka the nucleus of an atom).
Duh, well OK, so's my asparagus. No, I was trying to be clever, they're powered by a nuclear reaction some 93,000,000 away, so technically they're nuclear powered
I don't remember hearing that one. What's the rationale? Photons? The sun's basically all about plasma physics. How do they figure 100,000 years for that?Fusion power, no less.
They say that workable fusion power is 'always 30 years away' - in this case it's 8 minutes away (to pre-empt another extended Q&A - that's the time it takes a photon to get here from the sun...though it takes of the order of 100,000 years to get from the centre of the Sun to its surface! I remember being amazed by that in physics class)

Still would like to known how scientists determine this?Fusion power, no less.

For the benefit of anyone not knowing, don't lose any sleep over this, the Sun isn't going to go bananas for 5 billion years.Re: Neutrinos - I didn't (till reading this article) realise that the neutrinos themselves would kill us all. They don't interact with matter much, but if the Sun begins to go boom they'll apparently be so many of them we'll all instantly be char-broiled nevertheless. Really makes it all seem a little pointless. Hope I've at least got through my Steam backlog by then.

This Is How We'd All Die Instantly If The Sun Suddenly Went Supernova
If you're wondering whether the blast wave or the radiation would kill us first, you're asking the wrong question.www.forbes.com
Lol based on the article, it's based on assumptions on how it was determinedJust a process of repeated absorption and re-emission.
It's one of those things I only remember enough to think of some terms to google for, it being decades since I sat in a lecture about it. What I mostly took in was that neutrinos don't interact with matter very strongly so they come straight out, hence they'll be the first warning of our imminent doom when bad things start a-brewing in the core of the Sun.

How Long Does It Take For Photons To Emerge From The Sun's Core To The Outside? - Sciencing
The sun is a ball of hydrogen so big that the gravitational pressure at the center strips electrons from the hydrogen atoms and pushes the protons so tightly together that they stick to each other. The "sticking" eventually creates helium and also releases energy in the form of gamma-ray...sciencing.com

Biden did have almost 120 years to help get rid of the filibuster. Biden has no clue what's going on. Confused on vaccination, forgot what he was talking about when speaking about the filibuster, no idea on what's going on with Southern border, bed space, and illegal alien surge.Only thing I can think of that Joe's done wrong is failing on promise to introduce anti-gun legislation on Day One. However, fact was that the pandemic had put the kabosh on gun massacres ... until the last week. Now if we can just KILL THE FUCKING FILIBUSTER AND DRAG US OUT OF THE GODDAMN 19TH CENTURY ALREADY!
