I've found that only the small companies give a shit about GPA as I've worked for a Fortune 100 and 500 and neither of those two even asked. The smaller companies I interviewed with all put extreme importance on it.

Maybe they're not as shallow as some and can look past surface stuff. Maybe you're better than you think. You wouldn't hold that against them would?

Or maybe they're human flesh peddlers and this is going to be one of your last posts.

Damn right, oh and STFU as hard as you can, your mom must have been praying for you or something when that mix up happened.
Keep a low profile and avoid contacting the company when you don't have to, don't bring attention to your file no matter what, you just might fit in swell too.

No one else thinks this guy actually told the interviewer he had a 3.x GPA and is now asking to find out whether or not he can get in trouble for it if they find out?

Maybe I'm just too cynical.

Just FWIW I have no indication that they even assume it is a 3.X other then the fact that the response was so positive from them while everyone else hasn't been to enthralled with me resume. Also given that 3.X = 3.9 that would be something that I think someone wouldn't just believe out of hand, there isn't a single EE graduating my year that has that high of a GPA and the average GPA is 3.0, so if you look at all the graduating seniors in all of engineering maybe 1-2 have a 3.9 GPA so on one hand it would seem that a company wouldn't just trust you out of hand if you said "3.9" especially if you left your GPA off your resume.

But on the other hand I have had 2 companies (both of which listed no minimum GPA requirement) email me saying I didn't meet minimum requirements and since I have everything else they are asking for then GPA is really the only thing where I could be seen to be lacking. Also FWIW my 3 summers of internship are for the company which has hired the contractor who made me the offer. So I have experience using all the software and procedures that will be used in this job. Like I said everyone I know thinks I'm just being paranoid, but I guess I'm not one to see an email saying "congratulation we want to give you tons of $$$" until I actually have the money in the bank. Not to mention that I would have to buy a car and rent an apartment and invest tons of money into moving to the area and then if it doesn't work out I am in major debt with no job and have to start all over again.

Ding Ding Ding! Now we have a winner to the question: "Why did I get such a great offer?" Familiarity like that is >>>>> GPA. I am an EE as well and I just got an offer at a company, thing is I did my senior design project with their software. Not that there is one single reason why you ever get a job but it is definately a huge plus. For some reason even though every company is going to train you anyways (entry level at least) they like this a lot.

So its not a SURE thing until you are actually there making the $$$ and even then if they think you lied whose to say they don't just fire you a month after you get there and good luck explaining that to future employers.

If they think you lied, they'll bring it up, which is when you say "Oh, you must have misheard..."

They CERTAINLY aren't going to hire you, then fire you a month later over this. That costs them way too much money.

You're not going to be doing that until AFTER they confirm that you're hired, so what's the deal?

thepd7 got it right...you're being hired because you have experience with the EXACT thing for which they want you. If you want to play to your paranoia, you can assume that they just fired the guy who used to do that for gross incompetence, and you're inheriting a HUGE mess that was once the system you used to know. Now get to work!
