Job Offer!!! Bragging thread

I applied for an electrician job about 3 miles from my house. My commute right now is about 30 miles 1 way through a really crappy corridor. The company seems super awesome, great benefits, unlimited PTO, and free lunch. I work graves now and its hard on my family, I am a single parent. And the schedule is really weird right now. I work Wed and Thur one week. And have Wed and Thur off the next. And I work 4:30pm until 6:15am. Needless to say I am ready for a change. Anywho, I was nervous as could be and trying not to get my hopes up. They called last night with an informal offer, instead of being an electrician they want me to be a Project Manager. A position I have wanted to be in, but lack real experience. 8-5 m-f 3 mile commute and in a position that I am excited about. I have honestly never been someone who has been excited about their job. I am excited about this one. And I can finally put my degree to some use. I just thought I would brag a little.

Congrats!!

Super happy for you. It is hard to find a job you get excited about, but it seems like you put the hard work in and are now reaping the benefits. Hope it works out for you!

Looks like a great job and a great opportunity. Congrats. new appotunity/responsibility, 3 miles commute, normal hours, free lunch, PTO; what else to ask for?

Congrats.

How does unlimited PTO work? Cause I'd be gone a lot lol.

Basically as long as your manager approves it you can leave and get paid. A couple of people have taken 4 weeks off to go to Europe or when their wife had a baby. I usually take 3 weeks off every year and I havent called in sick in like 10 years. So its nice that I have the option for more time but I am sure I will be pretty conservative about it.

Unlimited PTO = scam to prevent you from cashing out your vacation when you quit

I use all my vacation every year. I have generally had 3 weeks. If I am not taking my vacation I am doing a disservice to myself and my kids. And frankly, I think people are better employees when they have a rational amount of vacations.

Congratulations, but . . . Project Manager? D: It's one of the most stressful positions in my field, although I'm sure you'll get paid handsomely. 🙂

I agree.
