Job hunt got me down

But yeah, no, actually the economy is doing reasonably well, although not spectacular. All the manufacturing and industrial jobs got outsourced though.

Good luck with the struggle, Comrade.

The economy's pretty bad. The government figures lie. *Many* people are underemployed, and many that gave up looking for work a couple years ago still haven't come back, so they aren't counted. Add in to that people working later in life just to survive, and things don't look so rosy.

OP - just like plenty of others you gotta learn to be willing to pack up your shit and move the bandwagon. Instead you're set in your ways and expect the jobs to come to you.

THIS.
So much.

Southeast Texas isn't much for jobs anyway, what little there was in the Beaumont area has dried up.
If you like that area of Texas moving closer to Houston would be a better bet. There are plenty of chemical plants there and oil/energy related businesses there that could use a person with your skill set.

Yes I can weld, flat, vertical, overhead,,, whatever.

Thank you, but I was looking for something I could stay on site, that is why I have been trying to get a tugboat job.

I live in Jasper; that is an 1 1/2 drive one way.

Whats that?

What do I hear?

I believe I hear something....

Yes! Yes that is it!! It's the.... the...

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance

There is your problem, Jasper missed the boom the rest of Texas is going through. Would you mind commuting to Lufkin? There has to be MANY welding jobs there.

Then you're doing it wrong. I went from 1 to 2 hr commute to 15 minutes one way. I'll never go back.

Yup. Fuck a 1+ hour commute. I'd consider it as a temporary emergency solution, but that's money out of your pocket. Aside from hard transportation costs, you're adding 2+ hours to your day without pay.

Some to San Antonio, there are tons and tons of jobs here. People who were ask to work first and then maybe if lucky would get paid, those people are getting paid vacation now-a-days

This. I found a place less than 10 minutes from my house, and I am not going back to an hour and a half commute. Even when it was just taking the train (and I can walk to the station, as it is only a block or two away), that still is not worth it.

I bought a place 5 minutes from my job to cut my hour commute down. Worth it if you can afford it. Having a shorter commute is amazing!

Lufkin is around an 45 minute to an hour drive one way. It drive itself is nice. You go through some national forest areas with some beautiful scenery.

While this is absolutely true employment numbers aren't the only signs. I'm in heavy equipment manufacturing, and things are popping here. FWIW most of our equipment is used in the US, so not only are there jobs created here to build the equipment, it's being used on jobs here too.

One of my favorite lines from a movie is "the world needs ditch diggers too", now I work for a company making equipment to dig ditches. 😀

Yea, housing is making a slow comeback, and in MD at least, infrastructure improvements have been going well. I still don't think things are so great, especially with the "government" jobs. That strikes me as being a shell game where you pay people to pay to you back. That illusion will last awhile, but there will be a day of reckoning. I'm not an economist, so I don't know how bad it'll be, but nothing good can come from it.

Then you're doing it wrong. My alarm goes off at 8, and I walk downstairs and make coffee, then walk into my office and turn on the monitor. Ta da.

Job hunt got me down

I have not had this much trouble finding a job since 1999 and again in 2003.

The economy is in the crapper, but usually there are a lot of jobs in industrial areas.

In the past 2 months I have put in dozens of applications and resumes. I got 2 emails, and both of them were a denial.

You're in the Utopia State of Texas, how can you not be able to find a job?
