More of a project/daily driver thread than a build thread, but eh whatever. When I have money it'll turn into a build thread. :awe:
A few of you may know I picked up a truck a few months back - it's a 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 x-cab V6 with the TRD Offroad package. ~266k miles, $4500. Here it is, sitting in the previous owner's driveway:
Mine!
Since I bought it, I haven't done much - removed the spacer lift from the front (it already has ToyTec/Bilstein coilovers) and picked up some new tires since it had three different brands on it:
I went for an alignment today and was told the steering rack bushings and the left inner tie rod end need to be replaced. I was quoted $49.99 for rack bushings and $73.99 for a tie rod end..plus $179.86 in labor. False.
The OEM rubber rack bushings have a reputation of wearing out very quickly, so Energy Suspension shall replace them. I'm also replacing both inner tie rod ends instead of just one. The previous owner has a set he'll give me for $30. Both lower ball joints are seeping grease, and the upper right ball joint's boot is starting to split so I'm going to replace all four (two upper, two lower) - $120.88 for 4x Mevotech from Amazon.
Both CV axles have split boots. I have an OEM Toyota boot kit here, but since rebuilding axles is a pain in the ass, I ordered two complete axle assemblies from RockAuto. Oddly enough, two axles with shipping was $102....and the Toyota boot kit alone was ~$70. Since OEM axles are reportedly stronger than aftermarket, I will rebuild and keep them. However, since it's MUCH faster to just swap them out, I'll do that first and worry about the rebuild later.
The dome light is destroyed - $30.19 new OEM (vs $25 used on eBay..HMMM, no brainer there). The center console latch is broken and one of the support arms is missing - $7.37 and $3.46 respectively. The parking brake cable is gone, but the seller said he has it kicking around somewhere so I'll try to get it from him.
So, here's the list:
Tires: 31x10.50 Falken Rocky Mountain AT
CV axle replacement and rebuild
4x ball joints
Steering rack bushings
Inner tie rod ends
Dome light assembly
Center console latch and support
Parking brake cable
All in all, I think it'll work out just fine.
