Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we?ve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.
Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonial?s really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.
I think in many ways the British were very misled in going to war against America and in trying to enforce their will on people who were quite different from them at the time.
Well.. given the context of the last 35 years, I suppose that would be correct then, regardless of political affiliation. Worst ever though? Hell no, although I would put Carter in the Top 10 worst. A man of high ideals and altruism, he made a very poor executive.Originally posted by: sMiLeYz
In the minds of Republicans born the last 35 years, Carter was the worst and Reagan was the best.

no, carters a real piece of sh!t idiot who doesn't know a damn thing about history and calls himself a historian. I can't wait for you to try to defend him saying the American Revolution was unneccisary. He said in that interview we should've waited to get our independence like Canada. WTF?!

Ummm Jimmy.....you're a good intelligent man....but really you are talking out of your ass on this one. The world during the time of the American Revolution was totally different than it is now. Jeez.....trying to put the American Revolution into the context of today's world is moronic at best. The British being more sensitive? Gimme a break! The whole concept of sensitivity in world relations is a modern concept. Being sensitive back then was only killing the men and not the women and children in a country you invaded.
Also..the revolutionary war being the bloodiest we ever fought? Ummm....ever heard of the American Civil War Mr Carter?
Again....Jimmy Carter is a good man....he was a lousy President....but he is a good man.
Well sure you can look back now and see that....but at the time? What Carter is saying may make sense when you look at the events of that time with a current world view, but he is trying to impose that view on a time when it did not exist.Originally posted by: sandorski

I think you're wrong. It would seem that even Britain realized in time that it was wrong, thus its' reason to allow other Colonies to gain Independence in a peaceful manner. You are correct, those were different times and Britain acted well within accepted norms of that time, but all that proves is that the accepted norms were wrong.
